While fans breathlessly await the fate of the computer-animated New Adventures of Spider-Man (it remains in limbo after being dropped by MTV in 2003), they can enjoy three episodes of its first season on this disc (culled from the 13-episode two-disc set, which is a better choice for completists). Mainframe Entertainment (which created the cult Saturday morning series ReBoot) and writer/executive producer Brian Michael Bendis (the Ultimate Spider-Man comic) give the venerable story a spin by placing Peter Parker (voiced by Neil Patrick Harris) in college alongside pal Harry Osborn (Ian Ziering) and longtime crush Mary Jane Watson (singer Lisa Loeb). As usual, Parker/Spidey must conceal his secret identity while wrangling a host of foes, which are a mix of ones drawn from the comic book and brand new enemies. Spider-Man fans seem firmly divided into "for" and "against" camps over the animation, which beautifully captures Spidey's web-slinging, but often looks awkward when depicting everyday movement. --Paul Gaita

I found the DVD to be completey inappropriate for children. Too much violance and too much swearing. My kids watched 5 minutes of it and its now in the garbage.

Spider-Man: The New Animated Series (2003.)

INTRODUCTION:
In recent years, I have become a fairly big fan of the Spider-Man franchise. This is due in no small part to the success of the recent live-action films and the animated series that still get heavy rotation on some channels. One of the most interesting takes on Spider-Man in an animated world was the 2003 series. Originally aired in MTV, this thirteen episode series featured something never before done in the world of Spider-Man cartoons -full-length computer animation. I never actually watched this series when it aired on MTV initially (mostly due to the fact that MTV has too many commercials), but being a Spider-Man fan, I wanted to check the series out. And I did just that. Is it one of the greatest Spider-Man cartoons ever made, or is it all style and no plot? If you want to find out, just keep on reading.

OVERVIEW:
As I stated previously, this entire series is computer animated. Essentially, the series takes place in the same Spidey universe as the films, serving as sort of a "tie-in" series between the two movies. The episodes have a wide variety of plots and characters. As far as villains go, we've got classic villains like Kingpin and the Lizard, as well as some new ones like Turbo Jet. In addition to the standard voice actor cast, the series also features a variety of guest stars, including Michael Clarke Duncan, Eve, Rob Zombie, and Keith Carradine. There are thirteen episodes total, all of which are about twenty-two minutes or so in length.

REVIEW:
I bought this DVD because I was a Spider-Man fan and for that reason alone - I had never even watched this series on MTV. It seems like animated Spider-Man shows are often hit and miss, but this one is definitely one of the hits. Not only is the animation great, but the voice acting is top notch, and the characters are three-dimensional and worthwhile. Before this, the only Spider-Man animated series that really stood out in my mind was the nineties series, but this one gives it a run for its money. The fact that this one was intended for teenage viewers on MTV rather than as a Saturday morning cartoon for kids doesn't hurt either. I have a few minor issues with this series, but nothing worth mentioning here. If you're a Spidey fan, you're not likely to be disappointed with this series.

DVD:
Sadly, the individual DVDs of this series are a bit weak. They lack any real extras. Accordingly, what I recommend you do is shell out the extra cash and get the Special Edition set, which has the entire thirteen episode series in one place, along with a ton of bonus features. This single-packaged DVDs just don't cut it.

OVERALL:
Spider-Man fans rejoice! There is finally an animated Spidey series full of the same three-dimensional character development and intrigue previously seen only in the comics. I strongly recommend this series, but do yourself a favor and get the two-disc Special Edition set that has the whole series in one place. It's a much better move.

Three episodes from the recently cancelled "Spider-Man" series aired on MTV during the summer of 2003 are presented here by Columbia/Tri-Star Home Video.

All thirteen episodes have already been made availible on the recent special edition set that included a host of extras for fans of the show. This particular reviewer found the animated series to be something of a disappointment due to the forced attempts to "hip up" the character of Peter Parker and a number of absolutely terrible villains. The animation is also a mixed bag as well -- many of the computer generated sequences of Spider-Man web-swinging over New York City are terrific, while scenes with the character (and his college friends) out of costume are far less convincing.

This particular DVD release features the introduction of a revamped Electro (voiced by Ethan Embry) in the first episode aired on MTV entitled, "The Party." Spider-Man faces Electro again in another weaker entry, "When Sparks Fly," before tangling with a perfectly dreadful adversary, Talon (with a horrible voice by pop star, Eve) in "Keeping Secrets."

Fans of the series should skip this bare bones release and buy the special edition instead.

We purchased this ball for my son as he was dying for a new one and worked hard to earn it. My husband tried three times to blow it up and as soon as it was full they air would come right back out. The seal thing didn't fit. 
My son was very disappointed as he loves these balls.We've never had this problem before and have purchased two others with no pictures. 

I bought this for my son at Easter. He developed a serious allergy to the material of the ball. His face swelled and became red. He has not had any problem around any other ball before...be careful. I even washed it and he still was highly allergic..

This movie basically has everything, the humor, the action, and the romance plot. I fell in love with Spiderman 1, and Spiderman2 was really good, but I still like Spiderman 1 better.

Must admit I'm more into indi/arthouse movies, but for a 'Hollywood Blockbuster' is this wasn't too bad. Predictable plot and by-the-numbers special effects, but enjoyable nonetheless.

A 3-D action-adventure game starring everyone's favorite webhead, Spider-Man is quite a rarity--a superhero video game that's worth playing. Featuring an original story jam-packed with characters and locations from the comics, and, more importantly, gameplay that does our hero justice, this is one title that won't disappoint Spidey fans.

While Spider-Man's story line (told via a slide show of comic book panels) is linear, there's great freedom of movement within the game's 3-D indoor and outdoor environments. True to comic book form, you can climb walls and travel about webswinging, although the former can be disorientating in terms of point-of-view, and the latter is often a leap of faith, as the game's shoddy graphics (even with the optional Expansion Pak) create a restricted field of vision. In addition to being able to do all sorts of nifty things with your webspinners, Spidey's superstrength, superagility, and spider-sense (for which you'll want a Rumble Pak to feel the patented tingle) are also accounted for. As for his superhuman reflexes, well, that one's really up to you. --Joe Hon

PlayStation version features much-improved graphics and sound

I only tried this game on Ps2 but on that system it was very good.

This game has awesome gameplay. This gets it 4 Stars.

This game has below average graphics for the N64's power. 1 1/2 Star.

The Plot Line is great and includes other marvel characters like Human Torch, Captain America, and the Punisher. 4 Stars

The Fact that I beat it 6 times in 5 days makes it run out of webs in the middle of a 100-foot off the ground web sling. 0 Stars.

I recommend Spider-Man: The movie which is out for GCN, PS2, and The X-Box.

What surprised me most when I first popped this cartridge into my system and turned on the unit, was how much of a likeness that the game bore to 'Maximum Carnage,' the title that was Spider Man's foray into Sega Genesis. Although it's been awhile since I've played 'Maximum Carnage,' I distinctly remember how Spidey and Venom looked in that game, as well as how the story went. It seemed as if attempts were made to just simply adapt 'Carnage' to Nintendo 64, Sony Playstation, and Game Boy Color. The only differences I could see between the games, other than the more straight-out fighting style and lack of big name villains, was the fact that 'Carnage' was only a partially 3-D game with more of an emphasis on battling villains then on travelling throughout the three dimensional background and swinging from building to building. Even a few of the early villains look a bit similar.

What I next noticed was just how of an all-around solid game it was. I was completely enamored for the first three or four levels before I began to notice the occasional flaws and inconsistencies. The first level, just a really simple swing from building to building, is a testament to not only the beauty of the graphics, but how smooth the game runs, and just how fun it is. Even the voices of the characters were done beautifully, and original Spider Man creator Stan Lee's commentaries at the beginning of each level ('Looks like everyone's favourite wallcrawler is in a bit of trouble') was just a real cool touch.

From there though, I began to discover little things about the game that just bothered me a bit. First was the occasional glitch in the game. Although their occurences were few and far between, they did ruin the mood of the game. Most of these glitches occured while using the dome of webbing to protect Spidey. Oftentimes the webbing would just randomly float in mid-air, just sitting there. But, no biggie, no games are perfect.

Second was the weak storyline. I found it a little hard to understand what was going on throughout the game. The story just seemed to jump at random from being attacked by Rhino to fighting off symbiotes with the help of Venom. I was pretty confused at a couple points in the game, even after playing through a second and third time.

Thirdly is how easy the game was. I had the game set on easy, so I can't make any conjectures on how the medium and hard settings are, but I was finished with the game in less then a day. I rented it Wednesday morning at noon, and had it beat after only about 5 or 6 hours of playing. However, even though it was pretty easy to beat, some replay value is given in attempting to go back through the levels and collecting classic issues of 'Spider Man' comic books in hidden spots.

And finally, my last and biggest complaint is the cut scenes. Since I had seen the ending for the PSX version of the game while hanging around in 'Electronic Boutique' (some guy had no life and just had to go through and beat it all - surprisingly it only took him a half hour, because other people had already reached the point he started at), I was expecting the same thing from the Nintendo version. What was a brilliantly funny cut scene from PSX suddenly became a poorly directed slide show of the same scene with captions below the photos. And it wasn't just the ending either, every scene between levels was in the same form of a slide show with captions below the photos.

Despite my complaints, I thought that this game was actually extremely fun to play and I'd still mantain that it's a solid game - if only somewhat more solid for PSX. I still do recommend Spider Man, because if nothing else, it's just a fun game that doesn't have too hard of a learning curve, and will pass the time exceptionally well.

My 4 year old is learning to swim in the ocean and loves Spiderman. So this body board was just what he wanted, and he used it many times. 2 small problems -- (1) the part that attaches to your wrist did not come attached to the board, as most do, and there were no instructions; we had to rig it up; (2) most body boards have the design printed on thr board; this one has the design on sort-of a cloth which is then attached to the board; I suspect this will not hold up so well.

My son is a spider man FANATIC!!!!! It's ALL SPIDERMAN ALL THE TIME!! When we saw this, OF COURSE he had to have it. At first, I really didn't think it would hold up that well, as he can be rough with his stuff. But besides looking WAY COOL, it's also sturdy and can really take a pounding. We've used it at the beach 5 times, and in our pool at least 5 or 6 times, and it's still like new. I HIGHLY recommend this!!!!

For devoted fans and nonfans alike, Spider-Man offers nothing less--and nothing more--than what you'd expect from a superhero blockbuster. Having proven his comic-book savvy with the original Darkman, director Sam Raimi brings ample energy and enthusiasm to Spidey's origin story, nicely establishing high-school nebbish Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) as a brainy outcast who reacts with appropriate euphoria--and well-tempered maturity--when a "super-spider" bite transforms him into the amazingly agile, web-shooting Spider-Man. That's all well and good, and so is Kirsten Dunst as Parker's girl-next-door sweetheart. Where Spider-Man falls short is in its hyperactive CGI action sequences, which play like a video game instead of the gravity-defying exploits of a flesh-and-blood superhero. Willem Dafoe is perfectly cast as Spidey's schizoid nemesis, the Green Goblin, and the movie's a lot of fun overall. It's no match for Superman and Batman in bringing a beloved character to the screen, but it places a respectable third. --Jeff Shannon

Well... I saw this film the other night after the documentry. I was intrested to see this film because watching a bullied kid turn into his bullies worst nightmare is possible the greatest form of entertainment I can think of. I particulary enjoyed the part were Spiderman chases that crook who killed his uncle, ther are points in the film were Spidey and the green goblin duel, and we catch up with the idea that this is like watching power rangers (who miss a flying rocket but still trip over and nearly die) Spiderman was excellent in all meanings of the word, a bit basic, you must admit, the typical ways of making such a film, The FX are effective yet there are points were we can see that its FX and not a real life spiderman. But never mind.

Dear Fellow Spidey-Fans, 

As a young boy, I always imagined the fun I would have if I had the abilities and commensurate strength of a spider, so in college I studied genetics and biochemistry in the hopes that one day I would have the skill to transfer the powers of a spider to myself. Unfortunately, I had to find work quickly to support my young family and took up a job selling insurance, but in my spare time I set up a molecular genetics and biochemistry lab in my garage.

Thinking back on my youthful fantasies, I created a mutated strain of spider having all the abilities mentioned in the movie. I then infected the spider with a virus that incorporated the spider's genome into the virus's own DNA. 

Much like in the movie, I allowed the spider to bite me and inject the virus into my bloodstream, and also paralleling the movie, I felt woozy and collapsed to the floor. When I woke up later the next morning, I looked in the mirror with high hopes, but found my vision was distorted. On closer inspection, I realized that my vision was distorted because I had grown six extra eyelets, like a real spider. At first, I was horrified, but then I gradually came to accept the change as the price of greatness. But that was not the end to the transformations. 

I too, can spin a web, but it doesn't shoot out of my wrists. Instead, like a real spider, my spinnerets are located in my anus, so I have to pull down my pants every time I want to create a web. 

I also have a deep craving for the blood of insects, and my family has left me because my favorite food are live flies I catch with my web. I eat them as a real spider would, by injecting my venom and digestive enzymes into their bodies to liquefy their innards and then sucking out the deliciously bitter and creamy soup.

Anyway, I wanted to warn all you spidey-fans out there who are thinking of allowing yourselves to be bitten by genetically-modified super spiders that you may get more than you bargain for. I no longer resemble anything human, and soon I will need to banish myself from human society for the sake of all that is good and holy. Please take heed, fellow spidey-enthusiasts, of my tale of Faustian woe.

This movie is action packed and the special effects are awesome. And you gotta love Sam Raimi director of this movie and the classic "Evil Dead"!

Willam Defoe is of course brilliant as the Green Goblin.

James Franco is so hot as Harry!!!

But Tobey Maguire no doubt makes the movie as Peter Parker. He's an awesome actor. Very hot!!!

Kirsten Dunst is absolutely stunning as Mary Jane Watson!!! Gotta love her as a red head!!!

MOVIE OVERALL 5 STARS!!!

This guide is complete and rocks helped me a lot.

this game is the best of all time, exspecially if your a true spiderman fan like me. Its like your actually spiderman, the combos are great, the action is intense, and the game is quite friendly, you really get attached, so attached you might dream about how to beat it. if you dont usually do cheats, get some for this game. You can fight like a matrix spiderman, have unlimited webbing, never die, play as green goblin, as mary jane. Trust me just buy this game. It will become part of you.  sincerely, spidey fan.

This guide, like all others, was complete and very informative of the regular walkthrough and many secrets throughout the game. Easy to understand and really cool page layouts make this guide a 5-Star product in my eyes.

"Until the Stars Turn Cold" is the third trade paperback collection of issues of Volume 2 of "The Amazing Spider-Man," currently under the creative auspices of writer J. Michael Stracynski and artist John Romita, Jr. (inks by Scott Hanna). At this point in the developing narrative Stracynski has already dropped his two major bombshells that establish the new and improved Spider-Man in the previous two collections: in "Coming Home" Peter Parker discovers that his powers were not the result of a random radioactive spider bite but that he is, in fact, the avatar of the Earth's spider population, and in "Revelations" Aunt May confronts Peter about knowing he is Spider-Man.

Basically, in "Until The Stars Turn Cold," which collects issues #40-45, two things happen. First, the dust is settling from the aforementioned revelations (Aunt May gives JJJ a piece of her mind regarding her new perspective on his Spider-man vendetta), and Peter is finally getting around to doing something about his estrangement from Mary Jane. However, this is complicated by the second set of things which happen within these pages, namely a set of three-issue battles. The first is with a new villain called the Shade, and requires the help of Doctor Strange, Master of the Mystic Arts. The second is with Doctor Octopus; actually, this would be Doctor Octopi, since there is the original Otto Octavius and a new, younger, leaner, meaner, version. Of course, both conflicts thwart Peter's endeavor to reconnect with his wife (so what else is new?).

Although there are some echoes from Volume 1 in terms of the time there were two, count them, two Vultures, what Stracynski and Romita are really doing with this second story arc is their own homage to what I consider the greatest Spider-Man story of all time, in "Amazing Spider-Man" #31-33 (yes, even over the first two issues down by Romita's father when the Green Goblin learned Spidey's secret identity, the three drug issues with the Comic Code seal of approval, the death of Gwen Stacy, the wedding to Mary Jane, the death of Aunt May the first time around, or anything else you want to name as a possible alternative). If you have access to that story, which also involved Doc Ock, then check it out before or after you read these stories so that you can appreciate the resonance of the old within the new.

As a homage "Until the Stars Grow Cold" is not bad; we do not have Aunt May on death's door this time around, but we do have here constantly being cute as the dickens when it comes to dealing with her knowledge about Peter being you-know-who. Actually, the part of Stracynski's writing that I find myself enjoying the most is his wry sense of humor (which becomes pretty blatant in terms of the movie Mary Jane is making out there in Tinsletown). We will have to wait and see how this avatar of the spiders thing turns out, but Aunt May knowing (and Aunt May knowing that Mary Jane knows that she knows) is turning out pretty well. It would have to, because it changes a major element in the dynamic of the comic book.

J. Michael Stracysnki is a fantastic story-teller, and the artwork by John Romita, Jr. is really good. If you like Spider-Man, you will really love this.

After being very disappointed with little tykes guitar&microphone stand set, I was looking into different options for my 4 year old son who's been wanting to play guitar with me. Grandparents purchased this guitar for my son's birthday and it's absolutely wonderful. We are able to tune and connect to the amp we already had. Father and Son are rock'n'rolling everyday.

This is a cute little guitar for my 8 year old grandson.
However, there are no directions for him to follow to play the guitar. There is nothing that comes with it.
It has a built in amplifier, but, It has a place for an external hookup for another amplifier. The company does not tell you what hook up to use OR what amplifier to purchase.
I would have thought that a merchandiser would refer people to these products.
Also a book, just for this guitar, to learn how to play it.

This product is useless with out the above mentioned.
1.Hook ups for another amplifier.
2.What amplifier to use.
3. An instruction book on how to play THIS guitar.
[...]
It is a shame that there are no feferals to the products I mentioned above.

This second volume in the hardcover collection of "The Ultimate Spider-Man" brings together the third and fourth trade paper back collections, or, if you go back to the originals, issues 14-26 of the comic book. First up is "Double Trouble" (14-21). Just when I thought the game plan with regards to the love life of his alter-ego Peter Parker was to go directly to Mary Jane Watson, passing Betty Bryant and Gwen Stacy, when scribe Brian Michael Bendis drops the latter into the action. This version of Gwen is big on the mascara and perfectly willing to pull a switchblade on a bully, both of which are completely valid reasons for Peter to have his eyes pop out of his head when he looks at her. Not even her police Captain father can reign in this blonde tornado.

At this point in the comic book the stage is merely being set for the impending love triangle, but I have to tell you that what is happening here is clearly a take off on "Dawson's Creek." Seriously. Peter is Dawson, Mary Jane is Joey, and Gwen is Jen (No, Flash is not Pacey; Kong is closer to being Pacey than Flash, but Peter Parker does not have a friend, which means Harry is not Pacey either). This should prove to be interesting, especially given that Mary Jane already know's Peter's big secret. But at this point the main problem is that Aunt May has an over inflated opinion about her nephew's love life. Yes, things might actually be worse for our hero this time around. 

The title of "Double Trouble" has to do with the fact that Spider-Man has not one but two villains after him (I was going to say two super villains, but that would not be the case). The new and improved bad guys this time around are Doctor Octopus, who has come out of his coma to discover his tentacles are fused to his skin, and Kraven the Hunter, who is now a reality television star from Down Under. Clearly, the more you know about the original Spider-Man comics and his various foes the more you will enjoy Bendis's refinements and provocative changes. At the end of this collection Spider-Man enjoys his biggest moment in the sun since the spider bit him, which quickly follows with a particularly low moment for Peter. Even when we think we know the rules of the game, Brian Michael Bendis continues to surprise us. 

"Legacy" (#22-26) and continues the "re-imagining" of the character, this time with the new and evolved Green Goblin and the question of Peter Parker's secret identity. It is the latter that is becoming one of the defining features of "Ultimate Spider-Man." The recreation of the Green Goblin in the mode of the Hulk makes sense to me; I always had a bit of a problem with the idea that insanity and a costume could allow the Goblin to slug it out toe-to-toe with Spidey (note the armor upgrade of the Goblin's costume in the blockbuster film version). But even more impressive is the way Bendis reworks the whole secret identity issue between the two; a lot of super villains have found out the secret identity of their arch enemy, which almost always involves an attempt to kill the superhero in question. However, the Goblin has a different plan, of sorts, for Peter. At the end of "Double Trouble," the Volume 3 collection, Spider-Man actually enjoyed a moment of glory. Of course it is all going to get dashed big time in this collection.

As is the case with the previous collections, "Legacy" plays off of our knowledge of what happened in the first ten years or so of "The Amazing Spider-Man." The result is what might be the biggest shock he is ever going to throw our way and if you every think Bendis has gone too far this may well be the point. While your jaw is dropping at that point do not neglect to pay attention to the double look at a pivotal conversation between Spider-Man and the Green Golbin that Bendis creates; that was a nice little replay he threw into the mix. 

Mark Bagley continues to provide the distinctive pencils for the series with Art Thibert's inks (sometime aided by Erik Benson); hopefully this partnership with last longer than the original Stan Lee/Steve Ditko partnership. For those of us who have a comprehensive understanding of the Spider-Man mythos it is impossible for "Ultimate Spider-Man" to really stand on its own terms because we can also see the additions, deletions, and alterations. But if your familiarity of the good old days comes mainly from the movie, then I can certainly see where you could enjoy this all at face value. 

At this point in the series Peter has told Mary Jane Watson that he is Spider-Man, but Norman Osborn knows the big secret, the Kingpin and Electro have seen Spider-Man unmasked, and Doctor Octopus is mumbling Peter Parker's name in his unconscious state. In "Legacy" we discover that somebody else knows the secret as well and that this has some rather significant implications for our hero when he turns eighteen (Peter is still about sixteen at this point). One thing you have to say for the story Bendis is spinning here is that he is always on the edge in terms of his re-imaginings. You might accuse him of going too far, but you cannot dismiss this series as a pedestrian reinterpretation of the Spider-Man saga. To date, I like it a lot.

Having been a huge fan of Amazing Spider-man since the age of 6, (1967 and still read it today!) I wasn't sure about the Ultimate series. I was pleasantly surprised! The story of Peter and his alter-ego has never been better. The artwork is outstanding. The stories stay true to the spirit of Spidey and still adapt it to the modern world that teens reside in today. It may sound incredibly strange, but Spider-man was the hero and inspiration that got me through the tough high school years. If I was a teen today, Ultimate Spider-man would provide the same service. This is a must for any true Spidey fan.

When I decided to pick up the Ultimate Spider Man compilations, I did so with reservations. So many friends had praised the book, but it was hard to believe the old, tested Peter Parker could be modernized in an effective, refreshing way.

Leave it up to writer Bendis...the guy can do no wrong.

This is a spectacular (no pun intended) update on a classic hero and worth every penny. A great book for old fans and new readers, who will both be absorbed after few pages. Good stuff.

My son loves this scooter. It is really easy to ride because of the training wheels.

My son is two years old. I was worried about getting this type of toy for him but his older niece has one and he absolutely loved it. When he got his scooter he was very excited and till this day, he uses it every day. The wheels are big and strong and he rides it perfectly.

Another great villian from the Spiderman Classics series! Carnage is the spawn of the infamous black alien costume that once tried to find a host in Peter Parker, the Amazing Spiderman. Peter rejected its attempt and the alien bonded with Eddie Brock to become Venom. Now, a piece of Venom's costume became seperated and bonded with serial killer, Cletus Cassidy, to become Carnage--a ferocious enemy to both Spiderman and Venom. This figure is very well detailed and articulated. Done in the Marvel Legends style, Carnage has excellent poseability and durability. The joints of this figure were all tight and well concealed. The paint job is incredible, too. Carnage also comes with a "spider-trapping" base. It is supposed to represent the costume oozing up and around a victim, namely Spiderman, and thereby surrounding them. It assembles very easily. The 4 sides are laid flat. Then, a "Carnage" head is connected to a string that you pull out and is drawn back in slowly before the 4 sides of the trap spring up. It's a cute idea, but the action figure is the real jewel. I have purchased 3 of these figures for my two sons and one for my nephew--and all are very satisfied. This figure was very hard to find at first, but seems to be stocked a little better now. Don't wait around too long, though. I'm sure this item will go fast again. I highly recommend it and is money well spent on your Spiderman/Marvel Legends fan.

While basically a horrible series especially when compared to Kenneth Johnson's "The Incredible Hulk", this is one of the few episodes of Spider-Man that is worth getting other than "The Chinese Web" (known as The Dragon's Challenge in overseas markets). It is the way Spider-Man in a believable form should've been. If only the same writers that did "Deadly Dust" could've did the other episodes, the series might've lasted as long as The Hulk did!

Anyway, The Deadly Dust is definitely worth the money!

For all its flaws, the 70s live-action Spider-Man show remains one of my favorites from childhood. Although the show got almost universally bad reviews and is often derided these days as something best forgotten, 'The Deadly Dust' was actually a very enjoyable 2-part episode, and probably represents the high point of the series for me. This was the second TV special featuring the wall crawler, following the god-awful TV pilot movie in 1977. With its mature, believable plot and solid action, this episode stands in stark contrast to the rest of the far-out first season episodes like 'Curse of Rava' and 'Night of the Clones.'. A group of ideological students steals a sample of plutonium from the university lab and uses it to build an atomic bomb in order to demonstrate the dangers of keeping such materials at the school. Unfortunately, although they surely prove their point, the finished bomb is then stolen by the mysterious Mr. White and offered for sale to the highest bidder. Pursued by a sexy reporter from a national tabloid (played by Joanna Cameron), Spider-Man tracks the bomb to Los Angeles where Mr. White intends to detonate it during the President's visit there.

Although these episodes are out of print and quite hard to find these days, grab this one if you can. It is alone among the series in the way it plays up Peter's confusion about his dual identity, and it features some truly spectacular stuntwork by Fred Waugh. Oh yeah, and if you needed any more incentive, Joanna Cameron in a bikini is HOT HOT HOT. ;)

Eight years before Tobey Maguire was born, the animated Spider-Man spun his first web across America's television screens. The program ran from 1967 through 1970 on ABC, and imprinted its theme song, "Spider-Man, Spider-Man/ Does whatever a spider can / Spins a web, any size / Catches thieves--just like flies" on a generation of viewers.

The comic book Spider-Man, who debuted in Marvel's Amazing Fantasy in 1962, epitomized the superhero as antihero. During his battles with bizarre villains, Peter Parker was beset by self-doubts and personal problems. The animated Spider-Man was a straightforward action superhero who was too busy performing weird stunts like fashioning a boat and motor out of spider webs to worry or agonize.

From the opening titles that announce the program is "in COLOR," Spider-Man feels dated. When he fights Electro, Spidey can fend off blasts of electricity because he's added "just a little asbestos to my web liquid"; when he discovers the extent of his new powers, Peter dreams of a spot on The Ed Sullivan Show. Although the directors include Ralph Bakshi and former Disney artist Clyde Geronimi, the animation is extremely limited. The same shots of Spiderman swinging over New York appear again and again. But these limits probably won't trouble nostalgic adults who grew up watching Spider-Man on Saturday mornings: "Wherever there's a hang-up / You'll find the Spider-Man!" (Unrated, suitable for ages 7 and older: cartoon violence, tobacco use) --Charles Solomon

This is an absolute must for any old Spiderman fans like me. I can remember watching these on the TV way back when you had to hop eand pray that the wind was blowing just right so that you could get reception on your TV, so I really appreciate the GREAT digital quality of the DVD box set. Also my three year old thinks it FANTASTIC and I would rather have him watch the older, less violent episodes than the ones that are currently being produced.

Wow, do these DVD's bring back memories. I can remember coming home from school in the mid to late 70's and watching the reruns on TV. I loved them then and I love watching them now. The animation isn't that bad and music is awesome. This is a must for any long time Spidey fan like me.

Please notice that this is not the real movie with Elijah Woods.
It has cartoons and is not with William Dafoe.

Spider sense score: 5 stars. Spider (radioactive) score: 1 star. Average: 3 stars. 

Tobe Macguire defanatelly is an unprecedented super hero. But this is purportedly a comedy. And apart from Allen Molinna's spirited Dr. Spider, this thing is often painfully unfunny. On the other hand, if witticisms on the level of "Don't worry, he's not a real spider!" tickle your ribs and/or funny bone, by all means go for it. 

Look behind the Spiderman curtain. What do you see? Webs and Spiders mostly. I seem to think that there's nothing quite so funny as putting banal exclamations in the mouths of their wild 'n' wooly characters. You know... The fist-pump-plus-"YeSSSSS!!!", The exasperated "Hell-LOWWWWW!!!", The "Nuh-uh! Not gonna go there!!!" 

(Are you rolling in the aisle yet?) 

Or Wait!!! Wait!!! How about having some SURFERS say stuff!!! 

...Webs and spiders who seem to think that guys who can fight the bad guys really well must also necessarily have a dynamite sense of humor: William Dafoe is invariably given writing credit. 

Stop it!

The grand conceit of the "Ultimate Spider-Man" comics is that they go back to the beginning of the story when the bite of an irradiated spider granted high school student Peter Parker amazing arachnid-like powers. For those who remember the first 100 issues or so of "The Amazing Spider-Man," writer Brian Michael Bendis, penciler Mark Bagley, and inkers Art Thibert and Rodney Ramos have been providing a high intensity retelling of the tale. This time around Mary Jane Watson and Gwen Stacy are fellow high school students of Peter Parker and the fateful encounter with the Green Goblin comes early on. But this is more than a re-imagining of the Spider-Man saga from the very beginning because these stories are informed by our knowledge of what happened in the first decades worth of issues of "The Amazing Spider-Man." 

Volume 3 of the hardback "Ultimate Spider-Man" collects the issues previous reprinted in the fifth and six tradepaperback collections. "Public Scrutiny" (issues #28-32) is different from the previous story arcs in that Spider-Man never fights one super villain in the entire book (even though he certainly wants to). This time the main focus is on Peter Parker being Spider-Man, an issue that is addressed on multiple levels, from Peter being distracted at school to Mary (Jane) having a hard time handling being constantly worried about Peter getting hurt (not calling her Mary Jane is the biggest problem I have with these revisions). This latter point comes to a head after Spider-Man has a bad encounter with the police who are gunning for him because he has been robbing banks and killing police officers. Actually, it is somebody impersonating Spider-Man, which is just another part of the growing headache for our hero. 

Bendis is taking pains to explore what it means to be a superhero when you are sixteen years old and in love with the girl next door, who is ticked off that Gwen Stacy has moved in with the Parkers. Meanwhile, the whole bit with Nick Fury and the rules of superheroes in the brave new Marvel universe continues to present intriguing possibilities for the future. Again, Bendis and artist Mark Bagley are taking there time with this one; 32 issues into "The Amazing Spider-Man" Peter Parker was a freshman at E.S.U., while here he is only a sophomore in high school. We can only imagine what he is going to go through before he reaches graduation day. "Public Scrutiny" is as good of a story arc as "Ultimate Spider-Man" has presented to date, even without the standard knock down, drag out fight with a super bad guy. 

"Venom" (#33-39) is a quantum leap beyond the Stan Lee days of the original comic to retell the story of Venom. At this point in the tale Captain Stacy is killed while in pursuit of a burglar who had gone on a crime spree posing as Spider-Man, leaving Aunt May to offer his orphaned daughter Gwen a place to live. Meanwhile, after defeating the burglar who has been posing as Spider-Man, Peter is stunned to find out that Mary Jane, who has not only been his girlfriend but the one person he trusts who knows he is Spider-Man, can no longer stand the pressure and breaks up with him. In the wake of that shock Peter connects with Eddie Brock, now a student at Empire State University. It seems Peter and Eddie's dad worked together at the lab and Peter thinks Eddie would like a copy of a videotape of their families enjoying a picnic. Eddie is touched, and has something to show Peter as well, something he calls their "inheritance." 

Of course, this is the "black costume," now no longer and alien parasite but a genetic bodysuit. While experimenting with it, the suit leaps onto Peter who discovers it has one big advantage over his regular Spidey suit: it repairs the damage done to him by bullets. But when Spider-Man catches up with the burglar who killed Uncle Ben, his new suit literally goes in for the kill. Eventually Peter will go to Eddie for help, and then it will be time for the suit to find a new person with whom to play and Venom, Spider-Man's evil twin, is truly born. One of the improvements Bendis and Bagley came up with for their revisionist version of Spider-Man was the idea that it was Peter's father who was the scientific genius who came up with the webbing formula. They build on that foundation again by working in both Eddie Brock and the Venom costume into the fabric of the Parker family saga, not to mention Curt Connors. Knowing Eddie gives the conflict with Venom more depth and Peter gets to be a smart kid without being a genius on the level of Tom Swift.

A must have in the series!!!!

Once again Bendis has done it again. I haven't really been that interested in Spiderman since I was a kid. When I was a kid, I loved Spiderman. I grew out of it(well, maybe not, just moved onto different superheros). I have picked up the previous hardcovers of Ultimate Spiderman because of Bendis. He has done what I wish all comic book titles would do. Continuity. It's been the same flowing story since page 1. If Peter is hurt, he is hurt for awhile. When Peter and MJ are fighting, they are fighting for many chapters.

What I really like about Bendis is that he "writes the way people talk". His dialog includes stammering, interuptions, emotions. Almost all comic books and a lot of fiction books read like a script.

While I keep going on and on about the writing, let me speak kindly, also, about the art. The artist(sorry, i can't remember off hand) takes what I like about Bendis' writing and gives the razor sharp dialog an even finer point.

I am anxiously awaiting book 4, but for know, I think I'll go back and read 1 through 3.

INTRODUCTION:
In recent years, I have become a fairly big fan of the Spider-Man franchise. This is due in no small part to the success of the recent live-action films and the animated series that still get heavy rotation on some channels. One of the best Spider-Man animated series was the one that aired in the middle of the nineties Saturday mornings on FOX kids. Now, several years later after this series has been cancelled, DVDs of it have been released (no doubt to cash in on the whole movie thing reviving the series.) Read on for my reviews.

OVERVIEW:
The nineties take on an animated Spider-Man series aired from 1994-1998. This was the first animated series to focus not only on action, but rather on the same sort of three-dimensional characterization and plotlines as the comics. Unlike most Spider-Man series which are set in the present, this one is set in the not-so-distant future - identifiable by the level of technology and the fact that everyone uses laser guns rather than standard guns. The series featured over fifty episodes, most of which were mini-series components. The series aired successfully for roughly three to four years, and has since been put back into syndication on Toon Disney and ABC Family, as a part of the Jetix lineup of shows.

REVIEW:
Overall, this is probably my favorite animated Spider-Man series. It's the one I grew up watching, and it's got the best storylines and characterization, as well as ongoing storylines that only add to the overall appeal. There are some inaccuracies to the original comic stories, but to be honest, doesn't EVERY animated Spider-Man series have that same problem (for instance, in the comics, the Green Goblin came BEFORE the Hobgoblin, but in this series it's vice versa.) I was also a bit frustated by everyone using laser guns (obviously done so parents wouldn't complain.) And since when is the Kingpin a technical genius? Oh, well. Despite these little flaws here and there, this series has a LOT of redeeming value. Of all the animated takes on Spidey, the nineties series is my favorite.

DVD:
Sadly, the individual DVDs of this series are a bit weak, not to mention overpriced. They lack any real extras. Accordingly, what I recommend you do is hold off and see if they ever release box sets that have the complete seasons in them. Many TV shows are getting these kinds of releases, so hopefully one for this series is in the near future.

OVERALL:
To put it simply, good series, bad DVD release. When the hell are we gonna get this series in season box sets!? Whoever owns the rights to this series would be smart to release them soon, since the franchise's popularity is at an all-time high due to the success of the movies. Steer clear of these DVD releases unless you find them in the budget bin. Hold off until box sets come out.

....the grand-kid (now 3) is into super-heroes ever since the Spiderman movies and The Incredibles DVD. And he also gets excited whenever he sees The Batman. I stumbled across this when I was looking for something a little more mature than his regular Sesame Street type videos (which he still loves, but this gives him a variety). While it has Spiderman's origin story told again (to a little girl who is Webhead's greatest fan) and some 'only in New York' scenarios such as the female jamaican cabby who comes to the aid of the Webhead, the grand kid still is a bit frightened at the Green Goblin. He calls the Goblin "Monster" and edges near his paw-paw for protection. Overall, the web swinging and the sticking on the walls alone are enough to keep him into it. This may be a better show for him when he gets older...but hey! For all other Spiderman fans, this is a great video of the 80's series that adequately touch all the bases. Additionally Stan the Man Lee shows up in the extras. That's gotta be Webhead gold..

This DVD is really sweet for Spider-fans! It has four episodes from the third season of SpiderMan. The bonus materials are a 1967 ep of the old series(REALLY funny), a rogues galleries profile, and a speech by Stan Lee. The Four eps star a two-parter with Spider-Man's biggest fan and Doc Ock, The Green Goblin, and The Rocket Racer. It's great

All I have to say is...TOBEY MAGUIRE AND KIRSTEN DUNST!!!

This movie is action packed and the special effects are awesome. And you gotta love Sam Raimi director of this movie and the classic "Evil Dead"!

Willam Defoe is of course brilliant as the Green Goblin.

James Franco is so hot as Harry!!!

This was a surprisingly good movie. Superhero movies of late haven't been that great (The Hulk was an endless, rambling movie with no talent; the recent Batman movies have been nothing more than guano). And, to top it all off, I always thought Spider-Man was kind of a loser of a superhero..he is a spider, after all. But this movie changed that.

Peter Parker was a normal kid in love with a flirtatious redhead named Mary Jane (just like the comics - wow!). He gets bit by a spider, meets the Green Goblin (a.k.a. best friend's dad), saves the world, and kind of gets his girl. It's a typical superhero storyline, but was directed brilliantly. Much of the time focuses on his transformation from normal to freak, which is very amusing and worth watching. There are dozens of characters which you won't be forgetting anytime soon. But I guess that's the point.. If you're going to watch a comic book-turned movie made in recent years, this is the one to watch. My friends and I have watched it several times and it never gets dull. That's all... "Uh oh, it's Spider-Man.."

Before "Spider-Man 2" was released this week and made $40.5 million its first day, Marvel comics did its best to set the stage for the blockbuster cinematic battle between Spider-Man and Doctor Octopus. It seemed like every month one of the Spider-Man titles was featuring Doc Ock and if that was not enough there were limited series such as "Spider-Man Doctor Octopus: Negative Exposure," the current "Spider-Man Doctor Octopus: Year One," and this one, "Spider-Man Doctor Octopus: Out of Reach." This trade paperback collects the five issues written by Colin Mitchell and drawn by Derec Aucoin.

As we all know Peter Parker was imbued with the superhuman powers of the spider after being bitten by a radioactive arachnid and has been fighting crime as Spider-Man. His lifelong nemesis is Dr. Otto Octavius, who became Doctor Octopus as a result of a radioactive accident that fused four titanium tentacles to his body and transformed his mind into that of a power made psychotic genius. However, the focus of "Out of Reach" is actually a third character, young Brigham Fortune, a scientific whiz kid who is a former student of Peter's.

The idea is that boy genius and inventor Brigham Fortune is everything that Octavius ever wanted to be, because not only is he brilliant and good looking, he is also revered by all and everybody wants him for his talents. Octavius, of course, was shunned by humanity in general and his colleagues in particular so he is jealous of the kid. But in an ironic twist it is Doctor Octopus who is everything that Brigham want to be as well (I guess nobody wants to grow up to be Spider-Man any more). After all, as a supervillain Doc Ock is not only powerful, but respected and feared. More importantly from Fortune's perspective, Doc Ock does not take orders from anyone. So while Fortune is looking for a father figure, Octavius is seeking a son.

Peter Parker just wants to go on vacation with his wife, Mary Jane, but the idea of Octavius corrupting the young Fortune takes precedence. Brigham had created an unbreakable bank vault, so Doctor Octopus kidnaps the boy genius and forces him to reveal its secrets. Just as the vault opens Spider-Man shows up to save the day. The only problem is that Brigham decides that he does not want to be rescued and he has his own ideas as to what he and Octavius should do next.

"Out of Reach" is basically then a fight for the heart, mind and soul of Brigham Fortune. Part of the fun is that the kid is smarter than Parker and Octavius put together, so that catching up with him is hard enough and getting ahead of him impossible. This is not a great Doctor Octopus story; there have been so many of those that every time another one comes out it makes it even more difficult to get even close to the heights of "The Amazing Spider-Man" #31-33, which I still think is the best of the Stan Lee-Steve Ditko storylines. But those who pick up this collection because of the movie will not be disappointed.

This is a great game with a lot of variety and a lot of replay value for all ages! Much like "The Batman" TV game (which is ABSOLUTELY worth getting) the gameplay and graphics are kind of like a cross between the NES and the Super NES (which is just plain cool)!

You'll notice in some stores that there are TWO DIFFERENT CONTROLLER VARIATIONS for sale. I've played both, and I STRONGLY SUGGEST that you purchase the "Atari joystick" version rather than the "flight stick" version. The joystick controls seem much more natural an precise where the flight stick control stick has VERY LITTLE GIVE which kind of makes you feel like you really aren't in control of Spidey. The one plus side to the flight stick version is the location of the Web Shot button on the top of the stick, rather than in with the other two buttons. I hope this review helps!

We bought this toy for our 4 year old and he has almost mastered every board. This toy is super fun and keeps him occupied for hours. The only complaint is that the batteries run out so quickly, even the top long lasting brands.

The Ultimate version of Spidey tackles Norman Osbourn/Green Goblin, and makes one heck of a story! A must own for Spider-Fans everywhere!

This review is for Ultimate Spider-Man vol. 4 paperback edition: Legacy

You can never keep a good villain down. That's true for all comic book worlds, including Ultimates, which is why Norman Osborn, the Green Goblin makes his return in this addition to the Ultimate Spider-Man library. Far more twisted and evil than in volume 1, Norman is determined to either own or destroy Peter. Nor is Norman Osborn the only threat presented. Nick Fury, of Ultimates fame, makes his presence known to our favorite wall crawler, upping the level of danger for all involved. The end of the original Goblin is slightly different than in original continuity, and more touching in my humble opinion. 

Bendis continues to grow and improve with his characterization as he makes these very classic characters his own. The dialog is flawless, appropriate, and flowing as always. His way of showing the madness in Osborn is brilliant, and must be seen. Once you've read those pages, re-read them. It's worth the time and it's too much to take in at once. Bendis is one of the most beloved and well known writers in the comic book industry for a reason, this volume showcases his talents well. 

Bagley and Thibert also continue to grow and find their own take on the characters. Their rendition of the Green Goblin is horrible, interesting, and chilling. The human characters are marvelously human, which doesn't happen much in comics anymore. 

While this volume can be read alone, I recommend having read at least vol. 1 before. It is appropriate for all ages, and is enjoyable for newcomers and seasoned collectors alike. 

This volume reprints Ultimate Spider-Man issues #22-27. Highest recommendations!

This is a great arc in the Ultimate Spider-Man series - in my opinion, the best of the ones I've read (up to Venom - Ugh!). So much is done well here - the story, the pacing, the art; everything seemed to work well together (well, almost everything). If I could give it four and a half stars, I would.

There were two things I felt were done especially well: the portrayal of the goblin's insanity and that Peter Parker's emotions. The goblin's insanity is masterfuly done - at one point we are actually see things through his mind, and witness the manifestation of his dementia, both graphically and in narritive. It makes for quite an effective - if disturbing - scene.
And Peter Parker is finally making some sense as a character; he actually reacts as one might expect a teenager in his position to react - terrified. Super powers or no super powers, the Green Goblin Parker faces is monsterously powerful, totally insane, and, worst of all, fully aware of Spider-Man's true identity and making use of it in a threatening way. It's all done in a very convincing manner - the drawings drive the fear home.

There are other nice surprises thrown in, that help build fill out the long term character of Peter Parker, adding continuity and connectivity. The Mary Jane/Gwen Tracy portions I like less, but it's harmless overall and doesn't hurt the highlights. Over all, the most intense arc I've read in the series so far (which, again, is up to volume 6).

Spider-Man vs. Daredevil isn't a question of vs. for very long, as they soon get over their initial misunderstandings and team up to battle the Kingpin. It parallels the original Marvel comics on which the story is based, which also saw the corpulent crime lord becoming the nemesis of both heroes. Several more of their arch-foes, such as the Chameleon, also put in appearances in a plot that revolves around Peter Parker accepting a job offer from philanthropist Wilson Fiske, not realizing that Fiske is in fact... but that would be telling. Suffice to say that Daredevil has at least some of the answers.

This whole generation of Marvel animations, which began with the groundbreaking X-Men series, is of an extraordinarily high quality. Their visual style is influenced by the best of the comics' artists, the protagonists are properly fleshed out, and--proving that cartoons don't have to be dumb--the plots and story arcs often have the kind of sophistication you'd expect from the best kind of adventure novel. This example is typically faultless in execution and, unlike most Saturday-morning fodder, bears repeated viewing. --Roger Thomas

Don't let the title fool you Spider man and Daredevil don't fight each other very often they just had that to get people to by the video. After both Spider man and DareDevil put aside their differences they team up to fight evil.

This features my favorite Marvel Team Up ever! Whenever Stan Lee and Co. used to put together Spider-Man with Daredevil in the comics, it was always entertaining and exciting. Even the bad stories were still good with these two! This animated version is no exception as these two team up after a brief misunderstanding to take on the Kingpin (a major DD foe as well as Spider-Man) and his goons!

The extra episode with FF and Daredevil was also entertaining. A slight lighter DD in that one but no less intrigiging. A good addition to the other Spider-Man DVD's out there!

By the way, I agree with the previous reviewer. It should've been called Spider-Man: Enter Daredevil.

It's a great animated film based on the ABC family animated series.Too bad it didn't have my two favirote villians of all time Kraven The Hunter and Venom.Anyway good film BAD title I have it on DVD it should be called Spider-Man:Enter The Daredevil becuase they only fight eachother for fifthteen seconds then they team up!The villians are Kingpin,Smythe,Dr.Landon,The Ultimate Spider-Slayer(Smyte),Richard Fisk the Kingpin's son and I hate this villian The Chamelon.Good movie Super BAD Title.As I said it should've been called Spider-Man:Enter The Daredevil.

This video is very special to me because it's the first one I ever bought. It featured Spider-Man and his archenemy the Green Goblin. I saw elements of this episode on the Spider-Friends' "Triumph Of The Green Goblin", but it's way cooler when he's solo. The Goblin is one of my favorite Spider-Foes and his confrontations with Spidey are always a treat to watch. With his knowledge of Spidey's true identity as one of his weapons, that makes Goblin more dangerous. However, Spidey managed to put a stop to his vengeful plans against him and J. Jonah Jameson --- the other pain-in-the-butt. Peter's relationship with Betty Brant provided a sweet touch, but I wish I knew who was the lady who kissed him at the party, too. Hey, he can't be unsuccessful with women forever, can he? It seems to me that this Spidey series doesn't get much props like the others, but I really think it should. Therefore, for the true Spider-Fans, spin a web-line and catch this video.

No, actually you and I are very different. I should wonder why Vicarious Visions would let out a game like this! The game is so unfinished. My goodness! The graphics in the game are pretty well done untill you get a closer look at it, then the horrible truth comes out. Don't get me wrong, there are some strong points in this game and theres a whole lot more of down points. The really strong point in this game is the sound. The sound actually almost sounds as if it came from the console versions. But further down the road things just get ugly. The qoutes in the game really are stupid. Like, "You may have destoryed my robots, Spider-Man. But you'll never defeat me!" things like that are really stupid! You got to hand it to these guys, they use the most overly used and abused sayings in the book. I personally feel that there was alot more potential in this game. There again developers are getting lazy and lazyer by the moment. I think the key thing wrong with games today is they lack imagination and that's one of the unique things God created in us! I bought this game and at first I thought it was kind of cool. The graphics were all right as well as the sound. But on the second level of the game I can never find all the people. Maybe there is a glitch in the game or something but I have tried again and again and i cant find that last person. So basically this game is a waste of money. If someone knows how to get past this please post another review telling everyone.

The Missions are really hard so it takes a while to beat a lvl. Also there is no map so it takes a long time 2 get anywhere. The one on gamecube is 3 times better the touch screen is used for this special move thing which stinks. DO NOT GET THIS GAME it is horrible. I can't even get past lvl 3.

i have this plane it flys great! to the guy who's broke its was probralbly defective but any way it is very sensite to the turns so i recomend the rush airplane it flys well to but it has a rudder good for beginers overall its a decent plane though

I bought this plane for my nephew, who just turned 6 years old. He has had the toy for almost 1 week, and so far he loves it. The batteries do drain quickly (as the previous reviewer noted), but the recharging is very, very quick. For a 6-year old with very little patience, he does not seem to mind waiting a few minutes to recharge the batteries. 

My nephew has had the most success flying this plane when using the auto-takeoff feature (with a little help initially from his older, teenage brother). He has been playing with this toy in the backyard (away from concrete sidewalks) and so far the plane has survived multiple landings with no major damage (just a few scratches). Although a bit expensive, I am very happy with this purchase so far.

Marvel Masterworks: The Amazing Spider-Man. 

INTRODUCTION: 
Circa 1962, comic book artist Stan Lee's publication Amazing Fantasy was not selling as well as he had hoped, and following its twelfth issue, it would be discontinued. In volume twelve, Lee introduced Spider-Man, a super hero who broke all the rules of super hero comics. Everyone ridiculed Lee's idea, saying he shouldn't create a teenage super hero who had to deal with everyday problems, and have a questionable reputation. Since Amazing Fantasy was going under anyway, Lee went against everyone else's views and featured the character in there. The result was NOT what any of those critics would have expected. The story did so well and got so much good feedback that Lee put Spider-Man in his own comic series! Over the years there have been a ton of Spider-Man comics, and needless to say, tracking down the older ones has become a difficult task. Not to worry. The Marvel Masterworks collection has taken several of the company's classic franchises, and rereleased the comics as "multi-pack" collections, reprinted in large books. So, how do these old stories measure up? Read on for my review. 

OVERVIEW: 
If you don't know the story behind Spider-Man, you've probably been living under a rock your whole life. But for those of you who don't know it for some strange reason, here it is (I'm not going to give summaries for the individual stories listed in this volume, Spider-Man fansites have already done plenty of that.) Peter Parker was a typical nerdy teenager who was always an outcast in his school. But one day, he paid a visit to a laboratory and got bitten by a radioactive spider. Rather than killing him or giving him radiation poisoning, this spider's bite gave him extraordinary powers! He became stronger, faster, and much more agile than any human being. As he used his powers to gain some fame and quick cash, he let a robber escape from one of the venues, feeling that stopping this robber was not his problem. And then, he arrived home to make a startling discovery - there had been an intrusion, and his Uncle Ben had been murdered. When Peter confronted his uncle's killer, he made a painful discovery - it was the same man he let go from his perfomance venue not long ago! This caused him to realize the depth of what his uncle once told him - With great power, comes great responsibility. And thus, he took up crimefighting, battling villains like the master-of-disguise Chameleon, the mad scientist Dr. Octopus, the flying menace known as the Vulture, and many others. With a colorful cast of heroes and villains alike, the series has remained conistently popular long after its 1962 conception. 

REVIEW: 
These stores are awesome, and it's great to get so many of them in one quick and convenient place. However, there is another way to get them, which is even cheaper and more convenient - the 40 Years Of The Amazing Spider-Man CD-ROM collection. The CD-ROM collection runs anywhere from $30-$50, and it has OVER FIVE HUNDRED stories. Plus, the reprints are AUTHENTIC on the CD-ROM package, featuring all the original ads and letters. The Masterworks reprints DO NOT include the original ads and letters, they only include an average of TEN stores a piece, and the less-expensive paperback editions are Barnes And Noble exclusives (a huge problem if you don't have a B&N near you.) The only advantage the Masterworks have over the CD collection is remastered quality and the inclusion of the annuals, which the CD mysteriously lacks. Still, the argument for the CDs outweighs the one for the Masterworks - get the CDs instead. 

EDITION NOTES: 
There are only two versions of this collection that I am aware of - Hardcover and paperback. I recommend the less-expensive paperback collections, should you decide to go with these books instead of the CDs for some ungodly reason or you don't have a computer, but keep in mind that those are Barnes and Noble exclusives. 

OVERALL: 
The only thing that there is really left to say is that this is a great collection, but the CD-ROM collection is a better, more-affordable space-saving alternative. Go with it instead. Still, this collection in its own right is very good. If you don't have a computer, you might as well go with the Masterworks collections (but in this day and age, who DOESN'T have a computer?) Final verdict? Good collection, but ultimately, the CD collection is better.

The Mighty Thor
There was some amazing, classic animation for superhero cartoons done as far back as Max and Dave Fleisher's Superman series of the early 1940s (echoes of which can be found in Batman: The Animated Series). Those were done for the big screen; by the mid-1960s, superhero cartoons were being brought to television, and some of Marvel Comics' biggest heroes--Captain America, Spider-Man, Thor, and the Incredible Hulk--were the stars. Unfortunately, television didn't have much in terms of cachet--or production values--at the time, and all four heroes suffer for it.

Between Odin's ever-changing looks (Thor's father rarely manages to keep the same face--let alone the same outfit--from shot to shot) and the over-the-top dialogue, it's hard to follow whatever semblance of plot was scripted. On the two episodes here--"Enter Hercules," in which the Norse God of Thunder battles his equally brawny Greek cousin, and "Battle of the Gods," in which Loki enlists the Enchantress and the Executioner to defeat Thor--the animation is minimal. It looks as if only a couple dozen pictures of the main characters were drawn; for the most part, this is a series of stationary illustrations with voice-overs and plenty of narration. --Randy Silver

This vintage 1966 cartoon features Marvel Comics' king of the deep, the Sub-Mariner. In the first story, "Atlantis Under Attack," the sacred trident of Neptune is stolen and all signs point to Namor's trusted grand vizier, Lord Vashti. In disbelief, Namor follows Vashti's trail to the carnivorous sea forest while the real thief, his archenemy, Attuma, lies ready to attack the city. The second story, "To Conquer a Crown," opens with a military demonstration by Atlantis's munitions expert, Namor's cousin Biera. When the citizens protest the apparent warmongering, Namor calls on Biera to explain that the arms are for defense only. To the prince's surprise, the treacherous Biera turns on him and challenges him to a duel of strength for the throne. Namor accepts, not knowing that Biera holds the ultimate weapon. Each story is divided into three six-minute serial-type segments. The animation is minimal, restricted mostly to camera zooms and moving limbs and mouths, punctuated by Batman-style sound effects ("Wham!"). Other heroes in this series include Iron Man, Spider-Man, Captain America, the Hulk, and Thor. --David Horiuchi

Spider-Man
Spider-Man comes across the best of the four, though part of that might be because Spidey's geeky alter ego, Peter Parker, looks and sounds remarkably like Bill Gates. On the two episodes here--"The Kilowatt Kaper," a run-in with Electro, and the self-explanatory "The Origin of Spider-Man"--the animation is minimal. It looks as if only a couple dozen pictures of the main characters were drawn; for the most part, this is a series of stationary illustrations with voice-overs and plenty of narration. --Randy Silver

Santa brought this to my 4-year-old and he loves it. He had a few Spidey toys but had never seen THE Amazing Spiderman in action. From the first note of that high energy blaring theme song he was glued to the TV like never before. Don't let reviews that dis the low budget animation keep you from getting this epic that tells the tale of how Spidey came to be. Get the original story before Hollywood does to Spidey what they did to Batman. The animation isn't a make or break like most people pretend it to be. I mean sure there is some real super looking stuff on TV these days, but kids today love Thomas the Tank Engine and Bob the builder which both make claymation look hi-tech!

The only "disappointment" may have been the Electro show. During the energy crisis days of the 70's this show had a little more meaning and intrigue. My son still loved it mind you, but they should have included another foe that figured a little more greatly into Spidey's webslinging heroism of the late sixties and early seventies. I highly recommend at least the Spidey video, which can be bought separate.

These were purchased for my son's 4th birthday in an attempt to keep him from the more graphic cartoons of today, since he was on a Batman/superfriends kick. Now, after watching these, his new hero is spiderman. I must admit, I rather enjoyed seeing these again myself. The only problem I've had is tring to get the spiderman theme song out of my head!

An excellent look at the vintage approach to comic book heroes. The Mighty Thor, Sub-Mariner, and Spider-Man. The animation is, at times, odd. But the voices and stories are definitely timeless.

True to Marvel Comics fashion, a multitude of plot threads and familiar characters (including the Punisher) are woven throughout the main story line, which finds Spider-Man struggling not only to defeat the Green Goblin, the Hobgoblin, and the Kingpin, but also to clear the Daily Bugle's Robbie Robertson of criminal charges and rescue girlfriend Mary Jane Watson! Spider-Man (1994-1998.)

INTRODUCTION:
In recent years, I have become a fairly big fan of the Spider-Man franchise. This is due in no small part to the success of the recent live-action films and the animated series that still get heavy rotation on some channels. One of the best Spider-Man animated series was the one that aired in the middle of the nineties Saturday mornings on FOX kids. Now, several years later after this series has been cancelled, DVDs of it have been released (no doubt to cash in on the whole movie thing reviving the series.) Read on for my reviews.

OVERVIEW:
The nineties take on an animated Spider-Man series aired from 1994-1998. This was the first animated series to focus not only on action, but rather on the same sort of three-dimensional characterization and plotlines as the comics. Unlike most Spider-Man series which are set in the present, this one is set in the not-so-distant future - identifiable by the level of technology and the fact that everyone uses laser guns rather than standard guns. The series featured over fifty episodes, most of which were mini-series components. The series aired successfully for roughly three to four years, and has since been put back into syndication on Toon Disney and ABC Family, as a part of the Jetix lineup of shows.

REVIEW:
Overall, this is probably my favorite animated Spider-Man series. It's the one I grew up watching, and it's got the best storylines and characterization, as well as ongoing storylines that only add to the overall appeal. There are some inaccuracies to the original comic stories, but to be honest, doesn't EVERY animated Spider-Man series have that same problem (for instance, in the comics, the Green Goblin came BEFORE the Hobgoblin, but in this series it's vice versa.) I was also a bit frustated by everyone using laser guns (obviously done so parents wouldn't complain.) And since when is the Kingpin a technical genius? Oh, well. Despite these little flaws here and there, this series has a LOT of redeeming value. Of all the animated takes on Spidey, the nineties series is my favorite.

DVD:
Sadly, the individual DVDs of this series are a bit weak, not to mention overpriced. They lack any real extras. Accordingly, what I recommend you do is hold off and see if they ever release box sets that have the complete seasons in them. Many TV shows are getting these kinds of releases, so hopefully one for this series is in the near future.

OVERALL:
To put it simply, good series, bad DVD release. When the hell are we gonna get this series in season box sets!? Whoever owns the rights to this series would be smart to release them soon, since the franchise's popularity is at an all-time high due to the success of the movies. Steer clear of these DVD releases unless you find them in the budget bin. Hold off until box sets come out.

The episodes aren`t too good,but the dvd quality is great!The dvd has special features like a trivia game where you try and save Mary Jane,Stan Lee`s Soapbox,a classic episode from the Spider Man 60`s show,and more!I also was surprised and glad that it has scene selection,set up,and more!A Spider Man fan would probably love this,so definately reccomended for fans of Spidey!

I never liked the spiderman animated series back in the day, so I watched it now to see if I like it now. No such luck. This cartoon still sucks. It just lacks the same energy batman and superman has. Sometimes spidey never throws a punch and he gets his ass beat up way too much. If you been a fan of spiderman for at least 15yrs. stick to the comic. The green goblin battle was a octillion times better.

My 2 1/2 year old son loves this toy. It has a display screen that shows which letter you push and says the name of the letter. I got this toy because he loved my daughter's disney princess laptop. THey are similar in that there is a keyboard and a display screen as well as sound. There are some games also, but he is too little to understand them. HE just likes the keyboard and the alphabet. I think it's a good learning toy for him.

This toy is a waist of money, dont bother with it. When I seen it I walked away. It dont play games, and it is Not a colored screen. This toy is miss leading & this biggest waist of money!!!!!

I agree with the previous review. The print was so cute, I didn't notice the poor quality of the material. Not recommended for naps.... only decorative.

When I bought this bed set at Toys R Us, I was so happy about the print that I didn't think of looking at the fabric. 70% POLYESTER, 30% COTTON: this makes the bed set quite rough to the touch, and doesn't encourage the use of sheets in a two year old that doesn't like sleeping with anything over him.
The "comforter" is better used as an occasional rug, rather than for sleeping. Plus, I was missing the pillow case, but I think I was just unlucky...
So, considering how my son just loves Spiderman, I rate it three, but I would really love to find an equivalent 100 % Cotton.

INTRODUCTION:
In recent years, I have become a fairly big fan of the Spider-Man franchise. This is due in no small part to the success of the recent live-action films and the animated series that still get heavy rotation on some channels. One of the most interesting takes on Spider-Man in an animated world was the 2003 series. Originally aired in MTV, this thirteen episode series featured something never before done in the world of Spider-Man cartoons -full-length computer animation. I never actually watched this series when it aired on MTV initially (mostly due to the fact that MTV has too many commercials), but being a Spider-Man fan, I wanted to check the series out. And I did just that. Is it one of the greatest Spider-Man cartoons ever made, or is it all style and no plot? If you want to find out, just keep on reading.

OVERVIEW:
As I stated previously, this entire series is computer animated. Essentially, the series takes place in the same Spidey universe as the films, serving as sort of a "tie-in" series between the two movies. The episodes have a wide variety of plots and characters. As far as villains go, we've got classic villains like Kingpin and the Lizard, as well as some new ones like Turbo Jet. In addition to the standard voice actor cast, the series also features a variety of guest stars, including Michael Clarke Duncan, Eve, Rob Zombie, and Keith Carradine. There are thirteen episodes total, all of which are about twenty-two minutes or so in length.

REVIEW:
I bought this DVD because I was a Spider-Man fan and for that reason alone - I had never even watched this series on MTV. It seems like animated Spider-Man shows are often hit and miss, but this one is definitely one of the hits. Not only is the animation great, but the voice acting is top notch, and the characters are three-dimensional and worthwhile. Before this, the only Spider-Man animated series that really stood out in my mind was the nineties series, but this one gives it a run for its money. The fact that this one was intended for teenage viewers on MTV rather than as a Saturday morning cartoon for kids doesn't hurt either. I have a few minor issues with this series, but nothing worth mentioning here. If you're a Spidey fan, you're not likely to be disappointed with this series.

DVD:
Sadly, the individual DVDs of this series are a bit weak. They lack any real extras. Accordingly, what I recommend you do is shell out the extra cash and get the Special Edition set, which has the entire thirteen episode series in one place, along with a ton of bonus features. This single-packaged DVDs just don't cut it.

OVERALL:
Spider-Man fans rejoice! There is finally an animated Spidey series full of the same three-dimensional character development and intrigue previously seen only in the comics. I strongly recommend this series, but do yourself a favor and get the two-disc Special Edition set that has the whole series in one place. It's a much better move.

I recieved the 13 episode special for Christmas and it includes these 3 episodes on the DVD. It is the best DVD I have ever recieved I loved it, all of it.I liked the way they have updated the characters and music, I have a constant smile on my face every time I re-watch all 13 episodes.The fight scenes are amazing and I love the 3D effect of him swinging through the streets.I would definatley recommend this DVD to everyone.

Three episodes from the recently cancelled "Spider-Man" series aired on MTV during the summer of 2003 are presented here by Columbia/Tri-Star Home Video.

This particular set contains the single best episode of the entire series:"Law of the Jungle" with Spider-Man going up against one of his best-known adversaries, The Lizard. Although the characterization of Doctor Connors (a.k.a. the Lizard) is a misfire, the episode still contains a few excellent rooftop fights, an entertaining "stalking" of Harry Osborn, and a particularly imaginative "strobe light" split second change from Peter Parker into Spider-Man within a police department interrogation room.

However, unless you're looking to save money and pick up this release strictly for the kids, the special edition DVD is the one to purchase.

If you've read my review of "The Deadly Dust", then you saw where I made mention to this film as the only other good one of the series. The Chinese Web, known as The Dragon's Challenge overseas, was the only other one that even came close to how Spider-Man was in the comics! We see the clash of conscious with Peter Parker when he's called a coward for running out on the girl's uncle when in reality, he was changing to Spider-Man to stop the criminals. Still, this was the closest we came to seeing Peter Parker as he was in the comics, always mulling over the consequences of his actions. We also see a bit of a blooming romance between Peter and the chinese woman, especially when she finds out that he's Spidey and not the pasifist coward that she thought he was.

Overall, it was the strongest episode other than Deadly Dust. Individual episodes I would recommend are Night Of The Clones (especially for Spidey die-hards who long for some similarity to the comics), A Matter Of State, A Photo Finish and Escort To Danger. Other than those, I'd go with Deadly Dust and this one.

I first saw this in 1978 on CBS at the tender age of 8! I thought is was great at the time & there's a certain amount of nostalgia when I watch it now.

However, in light of more recent comic-books adapted to movies, especially (obviously) the NEW Spider-Man movie with Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, & Willem Dafoe, directed by Sam Raimi, this (dated) made for tv movie probably will disappoint more recent (& younger) fans.

First some background on this movie. Marvel Comics had struck a deal with CBS Studios back in the mid-'70's to bring their heroes to the small screen. Of course, everyone remembers The Incredible Hulk, with Bill Bixby. That was a regular, weekly series. But the deal I'm writing about concerned Captain-America, Doctor Strange, & of course, Spider-Man (which was the first of the adaptations.) These three characters were shown on tv specials, that would air maybe every month or so. They weren't television series in the conventional sense (they weren't shown every week), but they were shown regularly enough (monthly or so) to garner decent ratings. However, when watching these shows, one gets the sense that the tv producers didn't really care about the characters the way today's movie producers of movie-comics adaptations do. For one thing, they took liberties with both the origins & (most disappointingly) the costumes! (Spider-Man was the only character that looked like he did in the comics. Captain-America didn't fare so well. He had a motor-cycle helmet instead of a mask!) None of the super-villains of the comics are there & their individual personality traits, well developed by the comic's writers, are pretty much devoid in the tv adaptations.

When watching The Chinese-Web, you're basically getting a straight police-story, with the only difference being that the "cop" of the show wears red & blue tights & crawls up walls!

The plot concerns an American steel-magnate living in Hong-Kong, plotting the murder of a Chinese industrial-official so that the official's successor, who favors the magnate, will approve the magnate's opening up of a steel-mill in China. There's a minor love-interest, the official's daughter, played by Rosalind Chao, who thinks Parker is a coward for "running out" when baddies try to kidnap her father (so he can become Spider-Man) & there's loads of martial-arts action scenes (remember, it's Hong-Kong!) The soap-operish life of Peter Parker, his faults & foibles, portrayed in the comics, re-created with affection by the film-makers of the current movie, is non-existent in this & every installment of the Spider-Man TV Specials. Even J. Jonah Jameson, who uses his newpaper to destroy Spider-Man in the comics & in the new movie, is pretty much straight in these tv specials. He's NOT outrageously spiteful, hypocritical, or even grouchy! The tv Jameson, unlike the current Jameson of the movie or the Jameson of the comic-book, is more like Super-Man's "Perry White." He's almost likeable....which is not how he's supposed to be.

But...that's the way they did it in the '70's! As a matter of fact, that's the way they did it until 1989's Batman came out. That's when real comic-book fans became film-makers & decided to bring their heroes to life, accurately!

The Chinese-Web is still fun to watch, though. The action moves along brisquely, the fight-scenes for this episode (and for all of them, for that matter) are well-staged, Nicholas Hammond in the lead is likeable as Peter Parker, and best of all, that sound-track! Who can forget it? (The musical soundtrack/theme song is really catchy! It's a spider-disco instrumental. It's about as good as the '60's cartoon show theme of Spider-Man was.) Die-hard fans of the comic-book character will want to see this, if only for reference purposes. Young adults who remember the CBS Marvel Specials when they were kids will also like this show. However, I wouldn't recommend it to younger Spidey fans. They, the teens & twenty-somethings who have grown up with computer-generated special-effects, complex character development, & topical story-lines, will probably find this straight-ahead rendition of Spider-Man a bit out-dated.

I remember seeing it on one of the UHF stations in the Boston area growing up. I think it was really good. Don't remember much, though. Anyway, if this was available I'd blow the $10 and buy it just for the heck of it. I'd probably laugh at it now, just like I did when I bought "The Black Hole", another movie I liked a lot when I was a kid & threw in my online shopping cart after drinking a gallon of beer.

What I really like about Bendis is that he "writes the way people talk". His dialog includes stammering, interuptions, emotions. Almost all comic books and a lot of fiction books read like a script.

I am anxiously awaiting book 4, but for know, I think I'll go back and read 1 through 3.

Starting in 1977, there was a short series of TV productions based on Marvel Charecters that were being aired by CBS. On of these being The Incredible Hulk which was the most successful even if it was in name only and had nothing to do with the actual charecters from the comics. Spider-Man was among them and between 1077 and 1994, there must have been about 12 of these movies made either for TV or the "straight to video" market. Low budget movies that were really cut and paste when they were made. No story to speak of and rather poorly casted. This TV movie of Spider-Man was a typical case. Silly production values, miscasted by actors who would later appear in better TV and Films, Mostly like one of those TV movies of the week that are aired on the network a few times and never seen again. This TV film has not been seen much since. It's been reported that all original film negatives of this and other Spidey Tv movies were all legally siezed by Marvel and then destroyed. Only poor grainy copies are known to exist.

Okay, I saw this movie when I was 9 for the first time, so it's nostalgic for me. It was the first time seeing Spider-man live action! Now, new viewers will find the special effects horrible, Spider-Man's costume laughable, and his opponents unworthy. But it's worth seeing if you can avoid comparing to last year's blockbuster. Nicholas Hammond is earnest, if a bit old, as Peter Parker. There are some amusing moments between him and David "Larry Tate" White as Jonah Jameson, and the groovy 70's soundtrack will have you snapping your fingers. Thayer David of "Dark Shadows" chews the scenery to entertaining effect--if he's not a super-villain, he is at least convincing and menacing as Byron, a mind-control specialist who (inexplicably) employs three bamboo-wielding Kung-Fu henchmen to guard his pad when he's not around! You'll be shaking your head and chuckling after it's all over, but glad you sat through it.

This is not a comic book or graphic novel, though it does contain a lot of wonderful pictures. Instead, this book tells the story of Peter Parker, the Spider-Man. With a wonderful economy of wording, it gives Parker's background, how he came to be Spider-Man, what his powers are, and who his friends and enemies are.

My nine-year-old son loved the recent Spider-Man movie, so he wanted this book. This excellent little book tells the young reader everything he or she needs to know about Spider-Man. The illustrations are excellent and the sidebars (on everything from real spiders to Spider-powers and enemies) are wonderfully informative. Son loved it, too bad it fell apart after two washings

My son was 8 months old and wearing 12-month clothes when he wore it for Halloween. The costume is really cute, but not very durable. The first time he wore it (for 2 hours) was fine. He got some food on it so I had to wash it. When it came out of the wash, part of the felt on the collar had ripped (although I washed on gentle cycle) and the unfinished seams in the sleeves were starting to unravel. After the third wearing, the unfinished seams in the legs were unraveling too. The crotch also started to pull at the seams, probably from my son crawling around. Also, I was never able to get the mask to go on. If you look carefully at the picture, the mask isn't actually attached. I think they faked it as there's no way you can get this on a child that can reach and grab. I debated putting the mask on him when he was sleeping, just to get a picture, but ended up not using it. So, for $15, you can get at least one wearing out of it and some nice pictures as long as you're not too hung up on the mask. I was disappointed in the quality of the costume. The seams weren't even finished and it's not that hard to do.

this fits great for a kid thaths 4,5,6 month then it to hard to put on if he is to big

Spider-Man was a huge PlayStation hit (it subsequently appeared on both the Dreamcast and PC) because it finally allowed superhero action games to get out of their 2-D beat-'em-up ruts and into the 3-D world. Enter Electro's story follows the plans of that nefarious, electricity-spewing bad guy Electro, who's trying to tap an energy source that'll make him much more powerful and dangerous. After a training level that familiarizes you with the game's controls (and new abilities such as the web-grab, where Spider-Man can send out a web and pull an object back toward him), you must web-swing around New York City and stop Electro, his goons, and various other villains from Spidey's infamous rogue's gallery. The cast of heavies include the Shocker, Hammerhead, the Sandman, the Lizard, and a few others from the first game.

The plot this time out is a little tighter than the last game's mix of stories, and the game draws on the villains' well-known personas to make each encounter interesting. Again, Spider-Man creator Stan Lee narrates the story in his inimitable style, and the voice acting is strong throughout. You can also seek out a few classic Spider-Man covers hidden throughout the game.

Spider-Man 2: Enter Electro is a great sequel; it adds quite a few new tricks and villains, and succeeds in terms of story and plot. It does carry over some of the camera problems from the first game, it depends a bit too much on puzzlelike gameplay, and the save system is still stingy enough to be annoying (you can only save between levels), but webheads out there aren't going to care, and it's nice to see such strong properties are still being released for the good old PlayStation One. --Bob Andrews

The good news for you is that the weight of this item has been corrected in the on-line ad since I purchased one for my five year-old son. That means: 1) you won't incorrectly assume as I did that the bag is suitable for outdoor summer or indoor winter use and 2) your per-pound shipping cost will not be comparable to the cost of the bag itself as mine was.

The bad news for you is that durability is a gamble. One of the zippers on our Spider-man head carrying case was broken upon arrival and the zipper pull broke off the sleeping bag itself a very short time later. And while the product is still functional and my son generally seems to like it, he doesn't use it nearly as much as I thought he would.

I wouldn't recommend buying this product unless you are specifically looking for an indoor slumber bag (a more accurate description), have a child who adores Spider-man and have already determined that the stores in your area do not carry a comparable item.

I dont know what the other people are talking about here saying this game wasn't great. But it is. This game is even better than the other two spider-man games. The grapics is wayyyyy better. The story more exicting because it follows the ulitmate spiderman comicbooks. It has alot of humaour because peter always cracks jokes. I found this game better than any other spider man game and that's saying alot. All the other games were buggy and not up to par. But with this one they really nailed it. Even the boss battles are fun.

The game continuously freezes up in boss battles. This could just be the PS2 version, but it occured with multiple discs. After researching this online I've found it is a very common problem. If a little more effort was put into debugging the game it would be a 4 star game, but as it stands it is practically unplayable.

i just purchashed this game yesterday..i bought the "limited edition venom" version..after getting it home and playing it for about a hour i was saying to myself What the??..i have to say this game is very lackluster...all hype no substance.. true the graphics look good for a virtual comic book, and the swinging around new york is fun..but it was done far much better in the 2 movie games !( i pulled out my spidey 2 game and was playing that later in the evening instead of this ! but are you really willing to spend 50 bucks just for good graphics? ... ok heres the lowdown, you have to run around and save people(which is fun) but it gets old quickly and then there are those stupid "Races" since when did spidey become a racer?? the first race is with the human torch in queens..and i found that it took away from the gameplay..and whats even more annoying..is the voice acting i know its the young peter parker but c mon his voice is so whiney my friend had to mute the tv sometimes..and the voice for the torch?..that whole dude surfer thing is very much played out..

But the number one gripe i have about this game is .. drum roll please!........YOU CANT PLAY AS VENOM !!!! ( you HAVE to play thru the whole game+side missions as spidey and THEN FINALLY, you can unlock venom.. which i thought was misleading..they even have it in Small print in the first few pages of the manual..how Sneaky is that?)

all that aside its fun to play as venom ! and spidey as well.. But if you really want a good spider man game? check out activisions spider-man the movie game... or the spider-man 2 games. you wont regret it they look a hundred times better, have much better music, and the gameplay is top notch!

voice acting is..poor..peter sounds like a whiney brat sometimes and dont get me started on the dopey sounding human torch.. but venom in my opinion is the star of the show here ...

My son received this at his 3rd birthday party, and its his favorite thing! His uncle is 5 and has one just like it, and my son has always loved it and wanted one too. We use it in the house, because we'd be scared to have our 3 year old out in the road with this. Maybe in another year with a helmet and knee pads we'll let him take it outside. But he loves it indoors, scoots all over the house, even on carpet.

The assembly was quick and easy, not a big deal. The scooter is sturdy and well made, and most of the bolts are covered. The only ones that aren't are the ones on the wheels. He has cut his ankle once on the one on the wheel, but if he was wearing shoes this wouldn't have happened. This is the perfect size for a preschooler, I wouldn't buy it for anyone over like 4, maybe 5 years old. 

The graphics are really cool on this too. The little guys seem to love their Spiderman. (...)

I bought my 3 year old a scooter for Christmas. My 20 month son loved it, he hooped right on and scoots around the house with no problems. I went today and got him one of his own, so there will be no more fighting. The 3 wheels make it so sturdy, he can just hop on and off with no problems. Really a great toy for 20.00. I can see scooter races in my future.

Though it is hardly any longer than its predecessor, SM2 just SEEMS bigger. Certainly, the action is much better, the villian is much more compelling and well cast, the dialogue is sharper, the secret identity angst is perfectly milked for all its worth and the supporting actors are much more confident in their roles. A much better movie than the original, which was a very good movie in its own right. SM2 takes its place as one of the best superhero flicks ever made, if not the best.

I have a confession to make: I hated the first Spider-Man. 

I despised it, loathed it all the more for having anticipated it so much. For a big-budget superhero flick I thought it looked astonishly cheap; it was poisonously saccharine-sweet, and the spectacle of the two masked super-adversaries---Green Goblin and Spider-Man---taunting each other without being able to see their mouths---was ridiculous. 

So I came into Spider-Man 2 with a mix of dread and boredom. 

Faced! 

I can report that Spider-Man 2 is not only a deleriously enjoyable film in its own right, but it is that rarest of sequels: the sequel that makes its predecessor better by virtue of its sheer existence. 

The best thing about this Spidery successor is it feels shot like a horror flick: this is, after all, Sam Raimi, the abrasive, hyperkinetic, revolutionary young director who had conjured up the unabashedly gory and improbably funny "Evil Dead" movies. Spider-Man 2 succeeds in large part because of the camera-work, which delivers because it mimics the movements of the hero and villain , whether we're webbing through the Manhattan canyons with Spidey or lumbering up the side of a skyscraper with the brilliantly evil---albeit enslaved---Doctor "Octopus" (played to fleshy perfection by the underrated Al Molina). 

Tobey McGuire has toned it down in this installment: he's more relaxed, more comfortable with the role even as his stymied superhero is becoming less comfortable with his powers. James Franco (Osborn Jr.) flexes some acting chops with his parsed, but critical role; Kirsten Dunst is amiably bland, as always; and of the wildly overracting JK Simmons (J. Jonah Jameson) the less said, the better. 

But the real jewel in Spidey's crown is its villain: Spider-Man has found a worthy foe, and the flick its lodestone, in the tormented and complicated Dr. Octavius, played to perfection by Molina. Molina gives this second outting its gravity, tragedy, and (no pun intended) heft---props as well to the FX crew on the tentacles, each of which bristle with menace. 

And that's another place where Spider-Man 2 shines: its judicious, effective use of CGI. For a blockbuster, SM2 made use of many traditional effects, eschewing CGI unless the scene was literally impossible to creature with stunts, sets, and props. That realism gives the film a gritty heft, a raw physicality, missing from other CGI-larded blockbusters, and it redounds to Raimi's credit. 

One slight complaint and a general note to Hollywood: stop killing off a supervillains every single flick---these guys are good for at least another picture, especially Doc Ock! Besides, a lower supervillain bodycount means less money spent on brainstorming new sequel stuff, and surely that can't be bad for business.

Whether you're a fan from the '60s or not even remotely familiar with the Spider-Man comic, you will get caught in his web. You'll see that despite its few flaws and the limitations of the PlayStation hardware, Spider-Man is the best based-on-a-superhero video game ever released.

A crime has been committed and (as often happens) our hero has been framed. As the game progresses, you'll find that all is not as it seems and that many of Spidey's enemies, including Venom, Carnage, Mysterio, and Rhino, are all out to squash the Spider's quest to clear his name. Fortunately, Spider-friends, such as Daredevil, Human Torch, and Punisher, are here to help Spider-Man and keep the story moving. Like the comics, ol' webhead can climb most walls and ceilings, swing from rooftop to rooftop and, of course, do whatever a spider can. With his constant webslinging and acrobatic hand-to-hand fisticuffs, it's easy to feel that you are Spider-Man.

The characters and scenery are nicely re-created here by making great use of the aging PlayStation's graphics. Spidey's ability to climb walls and ceilings does present problems with camera angles from time to time, occasionally making it tough to watch Spidey as he fights his way through some of the game's levels. While it can be frustrating, the overall camera work and graphics of Spider-Man are still amazing. Also, Spider-Man's controls can at times be less responsive and accurate than they should be, and the music is surprisingly subdued and flat, but most true believers can bear these problems until Spidey saves the day.

In fact, the gameplay is so good, most seasoned gamers will devour the game in day or two, which makes Spider-Man a woefully short game. Cherish the time you have in these red and blue tights; this game is escapism at its best. --Mark Brooks

INTRODUCTION:
In recent years, the Spider-Man franchise has undergone a massive resurgence in popularity, due in no small part to the success of the recent major motion pictures. It's hard to believe that Stan Lee's creation no one ever though would succeed has become one of the most beloved and recognized comic book franchises of all time. Having been a fan of the series for a while, I am taking it upon myself to go back and play every Spider-Man game I can get my hands of. In 2000, two years before the major motion picture totally revived interest in the series, a game was released for multiple consoles. Read on and see how this one measures up!

OVERVIEW:
Spider-Man was released in 2000. The game is one player, and features 3D platform-style action.

REVIEW:
I only bought this game for two reasons - I'm a Spider-Man fan, and it was very cheap. And I'm sure glad I did. I personally think this game, even though it's for the Playstation One, totally outshines the Playstation Two game that was based on the first of the two films. The gameplay and objectives are pretty straightforward here - go where there's crime and put a stop to it. You've got all of Spidey's powers - super strength, a spider-sense to tell you when danger is near, clinging to walls and celings, and, of course, your trusty web-shooters, which you can use to get from one area to another, or to entangle your foes. This is one of the best Spider-Man games out there. Superhero games that will please gamers are few and far between, but when they succeed like this one does, the end result is worth checking out. Oh, and did I mention that series creator Stan Lee does some voice acting in the game? I do have a few complaints, and they're mostly just the same ones everyone has. First and foremost, the graphics. This is a Playstation One game, and the graphics looked obsolete the day the game was released due to the Dreamcast's arrival. And secondly, the game seems a bit repetitive and short. Still, the good outweighs the bad. If you've got a Playstation, check this game out. It's one of the best video game representations the web-slinger has had thusfar.

EDITION NOTES:
This game is long out of print, but copies frequently show up in used game stores. Accordingly, if you want to get it, you shouldn't have a whole lot of trouble finding yourself a copy in one of those used game shops.

OVERALL:
Overall I'm pretty satisfied with this game. Good superhero games seem to be a raritiy, but this is one of the successes in a scattershot genre. If you've ever wanted to be Spider-Man, this game will let you fulfill that fantasy - to a point. Check it out - you shouldn't be disappointed if you're a Spidey fan.

If you can find something better than getting to beat up bad guys as Spider-Man while listening to a crazy rock/techno soundtrack...tell me! This game was so fun I played it non stop for 2 days...hence I ended up beating it. Comic Book nerds will also dig this because they will get to see all the cool Marvel trivia and comic book covers and such. There are also a ton of Marvel hero cameos in this game. Spider-Man has a lot of funny jokes as well. The controls are easy to get into, the levels all offer something interesting and new and the last boos truely was the best part!

Out of all of the superhero games for PS1 this is the best. It is fun and you can come back and play it again to gain the things you missed! Highly recommended!

While fans breathlessly await the fate of the computer-animated New Adventures of Spider-Man (it remains in limbo after being dropped by MTV in 2003), they can enjoy three episodes of its first season on this disc (culled from the 13-episode two-disc set, which is a better choice for completists). The three episodes on this disc are "Royal Scam," "Heroes and Villains," and "Flash Memory." Mainframe Entertainment (which created the cult Saturday morning series ReBoot) and writer/executive producer Brian Michael Bendis (the Ultimate Spider-Man comic) give the venerable story a spin by placing Peter Parker (voiced by Neil Patrick Harris) in college alongside pal Harry Osborn (Ian Ziering) and longtime crush Mary Jane Watson (singer Lisa Loeb). As usual, Parker/Spidey must conceal his secret identity while wrangling a host of foes, which are a mix of ones drawn from the comic book and brand new enemies. Spider-Man fans seem firmly divided into "for" and "against" camps over the animation, which beautifully captures Spidey's web-slinging, but often looks awkward when depicting everyday movement. --Paul Gaita

I have three children from 2-8 years of age and they all LOVE it!!! It is very durable. Even my 200 pound husband did not have a problem in it. I highly recommend this toy. It inflates and defaltes in less than a minute.

Owned a prior bounce house from ToysRUS. Quality was much better. Bigger bouncing surface area. Better quality blower. Easier folding and storage. 

This product only permitts for two kids at a time and given the bouncing surface area that's about right. What a drag for when more than one kid shows up for a play session. Also, this product only allows for weight up to 100 lbs max. per individual. Our other model allowed up to 200 lbs. which at least allowed an adult to be in the bounce house with the kids if we wanted. Overall, shop around, you can do better.

I bought this for my 4 year old's birthday this past July and have been very happy with it. My 10 year old came with me but since it was in a box and there was no display, I was most worried about the size and quality. Well, after getting it home and blowing it up, I was VERY happy with the size and impressed with the quality. Even my 10 year old and his friends have had a lot of fun in it and trust me, they're not all that gentle with it but it withstands it. Plus, it's light enough to move around, although a bit cumbersome. We use it indoors or out and it's just so much fun. I would highly recommend this purchase and now it's on sale!

Scientist turned supervillain Dr. Octopus is one of Spider-Man's longest-running foes, and the pair face off in four action-packed animated episodes on this DVD. All four episodes are taken from Spider-Man: The Animated Series (1994-98), though Doc Ock is only front-and-center for the first episode (culled from the debut season), which does a fine job of re-imagining his origins. The episode also features Felicia Hardy, a.k.a. the Black Cat; she figures prominently in the other three episodes, while Ock takes a supporting role before disappearing altogether in the final one. His absence is disconcerting, given the prominence of his name in the DVD title, and the three episodes, pulled from season 4's lengthy story arc, seem disjointed when viewed outside of the full storyline. But the action is plentiful, the stories are mostly true to the Spidey universe, and true believers will appreciate the parade of Marvel characters on display, including the Kingpin, the Lizard, the Vulture, and even a cameo from Captain America. Supplemental features include two episodes from the 1967-70 animated Spider-Man series, one featuring Doc Ock; Spidey co-creator Stan Lee introduces each episode and sounds off on a variety of related subjects in the interview featurette "Stan Lee's Soapbox"; and there's a wealth of previews for future Marvel/Buena Vista DVD titles, including The Venom Saga. --Paul Gaita

Spider-Man (1994-1998.)

INTRODUCTION:
In recent years, I have become a fairly big fan of the Spider-Man franchise. This is due in no small part to the success of the recent live-action films and the animated series that still get heavy rotation on some channels. One of the best Spider-Man animated series was the one that aired in the middle of the nineties Saturday mornings on FOX kids. Now, several years later after this series has been cancelled, DVDs of it have been released (no doubt to cash in on the whole movie thing reviving the series.) Read on for my reviews.

OVERVIEW:
The nineties take on an animated Spider-Man series aired from 1994-1998. This was the first animated series to focus not only on action, but rather on the same sort of three-dimensional characterization and plotlines as the comics. Unlike most Spider-Man series which are set in the present, this one is set in the not-so-distant future - identifiable by the level of technology and the fact that everyone uses laser guns rather than standard guns. The series featured over fifty episodes, most of which were mini-series components. The series aired successfully for roughly three to four years, and has since been put back into syndication on Toon Disney and ABC Family, as a part of the Jetix lineup of shows.

REVIEW:
Overall, this is probably my favorite animated Spider-Man series. It's the one I grew up watching, and it's got the best storylines and characterization, as well as ongoing storylines that only add to the overall appeal. There are some inaccuracies to the original comic stories, but to be honest, doesn't EVERY animated Spider-Man series have that same problem (for instance, in the comics, the Green Goblin came BEFORE the Hobgoblin, but in this series it's vice versa.) I was also a bit frustated by everyone using laser guns (obviously done so parents wouldn't complain.) And since when is the Kingpin a technical genius? Oh, well. Despite these little flaws here and there, this series has a LOT of redeeming value. Of all the animated takes on Spidey, the nineties series is my favorite.

DVD:
Sadly, the individual DVDs of this series are a bit weak, not to mention overpriced. They lack any real extras. Accordingly, what I recommend you do is hold off and see if they ever release box sets that have the complete seasons in them. Many TV shows are getting these kinds of releases, so hopefully one for this series is in the near future.

OVERALL:
To put it simply, good series, bad DVD release. When the hell are we gonna get this series in season box sets!? Whoever owns the rights to this series would be smart to release them soon, since the franchise's popularity is at an all-time high due to the success of the movies. Steer clear of these DVD releases unless you find them in the budget bin. Hold off until box sets come out.

They've released the episodes featuring Doc Ock, Scorpion, King Pin, Vulture, and Black Cat. It is so cool. It also includes a preview of Spider-Man: The Venom Saga.

Having yet to see Spider-Man 2 I was able to watch this DVD without comparing the two. However, from what I understand of Spider-Man 2 there is no Black Cat, which is odd because this DVD could have been entitled "Spider-Man and Black Cat." Black Cat is a rich girl who pines for Spider-Man, and is turned into a superhero through some of the usual hocus pocus. I would have been very interested to see how Sam Raimi would have handled this story line had he stuck to this one in his new movie. I think the Black Cat character is an interesting one, I just feel as though these episodes really screw it up. There are the obvious flaws: old school animation, abysmal voice acting, and a complete avoidance of any type of dramatics. Then there are the larger problems, such as how the writers of these episodes seem to have been using too much cold medication while writing the scripts. I thought it was odd when they turned sweet Felecia into a muscle bound butt kicker named Black Cat, but I got used to it. Then these provided the DVD with its most surreal moment when a tyrannical baby states that he has no interest in his bottle, but that his body does. Never mind...I can't explain it. There is also a comparison between pizza and the Shield that is only funny in its unfunnyness. The DVD does have its charms though. I loved the shot it took at cowardly CEO's who declare all those who they don't like cowardly. I also enjoyed the Captain America cameo. But still by the time the DVD ended I was fighting a strong urge to doze off. Maybe I'm just comic book ignorant, or maybe not. 5.00 out of 10

This scared me,some as a child.I wonder if it's on DVD? Nicholas Hammond is a hunk! There were no Villians of the Spider-Man cartoons,no M.J,White cat,just people I never heard of. He was the kid who was Fredrich on The Sound Of Music.

I remember watching this when I was at school and loving it, mind you watching now I am reminded how 70's it looks. I was a huge fan of the comics and although Aunt May is in it as is the daily Bugle this tv movie was world's away from the comics. Having said that Nicholas Hammond plays a very nervous Peter Parker and is great in the role, the martial arts sequences are extremely entertaining. This is lots of fun.

What can be said about this video that others haven't already said? No Uncle Ben being shot, no guilt from Peter, no angst, no insecurites, no Mary Jane Watson, Betty Brant, or Gwen Stacy, no high-school bullies like Flash Thompson, no Green Goblin, Scorpion, Lizard, Kingpin, or Vulture! The costume looks like pajamas & this rendition of Spidey is pretty much a straight cops & robbers adventure with a guy who crawls on walls & a madman bent on mind control. To top it off, J. Jonah Jameson isn't the hypocritical, self-serving skin-flint he's supposed to be.

So why watch it? Well, if you were a 7 year-old kid when these Marvel Made-For-TV CBS Specials were released back in 1977, then that's a good enough reason to buy it! I still enjoy this video! The martial-arts fight scenes are fun to watch (he takes on three big Asian guys armed with bamboo swords!), Nicholas Hammond is likeable as Peter Parker, & the '70's theme-song for the Spider-Man Specials (which wasn't used in this pilot, but would be used in the later episodes) is really catchy! They even have Aunt May in this tv pilot!

If you're a young teen to twenty-something fan of Spider-Man, raised on computer-graphics, & expecting an accurate rendition of the comic-book character, then this isn't for you! (The current Sam Raimi directed/Tobey Maguire starring blockbuster, admittedly, is thousands of times ahead of this dated tv show.) But, if you're like me (and my age), then this is a fun, light, & enjoyable look back at the way they used to do action shows back in the '70's. And how about those '70's fashions, huh?!

But my dog chewed it up after a couple of weeks it was used.

We bought these for my son for his 4th birthday and although they are very sturdy, the buttons to release the wheels are on the inner part of the outside of the shoe. So when he is walking in them, one of the shoes will hit the button on the other shoe and pop out the wheels mid-step! This happens several times a minute! They should have put the buttons on the other side of the shoe so that they don't hit each other! He has had several bad falls (which drew blood!) I would not recommend these until they make it impossible for the wheels to pop out spontaneously! (maybe making the buttons flush against the shoe instead of sticking out so far)

This is a slim trade paperback that reprints issues #1-4 of the Marvel Fanfare comic from 1982, which were written by long-time X-Men writer Chris Claremont.

Parts 1 and 2 feature Angel of the X-Men and Spider-Man on a trip to the Savage Land, a prehistoric enclave. Illustrations are by Michael Golden.

Parts 3 and 4 feature the X-Men team circa the Uncanny X-Men 140s, including Storm, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, and Colossus. Illustrations are by x-artists Dave Cockrum and Paul Smith.

The story involves the love interest of Karl Lykos/Sauron. It wraps up stories from the 60s of Uncanny X-Men (Savage Land Mutates) and the 110s (Sauron, Zaladane). As always, Ka-Zar (a character in the Tarzan vein) is involved.

This book would make a good companion buy with either (or all) of the following: (1) the X-Men Visionaries: Neal Adams tpb, which collects the original 60s Sauron and Savage Land Mutates stories, (2) Essential X-Men #1, which continues the Sauron story and introduces Zaladane, (3) the X-Men Visionaries: Jim Lee collection, which tells the ultimate Zaladane/Mutates story (a truly excellent story about Magneto and the effects of violence, which touches on many of the ethical themes of classic X-Men comics.)

The artwork is good (Smith's later run on Uncanny is really outstanding). The story is vintage Claremont, not his very best, but solid. The themes of personal courage, respect for the natural order, and ethical conduct are all there, and it's a good introduction to the characters.

If you're a fan of late 1970s/early 1980s X-Men who's looking for more, you'll like this. I sure did. The Savage Land is always a fun ride.

If you're looking for an inexpensive comic collection for a young person, this is great. If they like it, I'd suggest following up with some of the X-Men Essentials collections or the Dark Phoenix Saga. The X-Men really are complex and powerful bit of American pop culture. Love them.

This series features the original characters, the original team, in all-new adventures drawn and told in a manner reminiscent of the Silver Age era but incorporating some of the more sophisticated storytelling techniques adopted since then. Perfect for older nostalgists without interfering the current timeline. Plus, it's a good read that current X-fans curious about the X-Men's earlier days can enjoy too.

My beloved web-slinger is making a comeback, including the release of his newest video game on the Mac. Featuring the voices of Spiderman 2 stars Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, and Alfred Molina, the game pits Peter Parker against Doctor Octavius as well as classic foes in a story based on the film.

Without giving away too much, the key scenes in the movie are loosely recreated in-game with a whole lot of supplemental twists to keep the action going. These extra adventures draw several characters from the comic book into Doc Ock's criminal scheme, giving Spiderman plenty of opportunities to practice his witty banter. Each character has been modernized to better fit the aesthetic of the films and show less of their dated comic origins.

All of the staples of Spidey action are present too. Swinging through the city, zipping to ceilings, and climbing walls. You fight thugs with punches and kicks, tie them up with webbing, and even disarm them from a distance. Add more complex fights with the main foes and you have a lot of fun being a super hero!

You get to chase Puma floor by floor through the open framework of a skyscraper under construction - lots of swinging, dodging projectiles, and overcoming acrophobia!

And Mephisto's levels take Spidey's acrobatics to a whole new level - jumping from web to web at eye-level with airliners. I actually found it unnerving to look down!

Unfortunately all of that action doesn't last too long. The difficulty level is fixed and the game is aimed at a younger audience, so it can go by quick. I finished it in just my second sitting. 

To fill the time there are mini-games everywhere. These optional challenges to find all the targets or swing through hoops to demonstrate your web-slinging skills encourage you to think like a spider and give you hero points that accumulate to unlock bonus missions.

Just moving the plot along also requires puzzle skills since many required tasks are based on repeating a sequence (remember Simon?). Beating several of the bosses also requires simple pattern recognition.

The puzzles, simple combat, and limited control makes the game feel a lot simpler than the last Spiderman movie game (released exclusively for Windows). While this version is a blast, the first was probably more exciting for older players.

The graphics in the previous version were also more cinematic. The visuals in this sequel are good, but lean toward cartoon colors and lighting. Your opponents are limited too - you end up fighting identical thugs over and over.

Worse than their uniform appearance is their tiny selection of dialog. Sounds in this game are limited. The only thing worse than the tinny sound of walking is hearing Rhino say "I'm gonna smash you!" for the tenth time!

The cut-scenes too are poorly implemented. Which is bad because they are critical to the progression of the story. The mix of pre-rendered CGI and in-game animations distracts from the continuity of the action and, though they feature three of the movies actors, the rest of the dialog and voice acting is poor. On top of all that, some of the pre-rendered scenes are squished, ruining their cinematic value.

There are some in-game scenes that work well, however. Simulating spider-sense, certain scenes queue you for input to evade danger. This is neat but too rare and usually moves Spiderman instantly to a new location. Along with long load times, this further disrupts the stories progression.

Beating the game once opens up a free play mode that lets you explore the city and play any of the mini-missions for fun - a great way to practice your spider-skills. You do have to repeat the tutorial every time you start a new game, though. At least Bruce Campbell voices it - he performed the same role in the previous game and had a cameo as the wrestling announcer in the first movie.

Despite limited re-playability, technical deficiencies, and a plot that doesn't flow as smoothly as it should, I liked this game. It's simple (even more than it's console versions), and the violence is light and non-graphic, so it's great for kids. But I think anyone can have a whole lot of fun being Spiderman!

If you've seen screen-shots or video clips of "Spider-man 2: The Movie" it's likely that those come from the PS2, X-box, or Gamecube versions of this game. While the console versions do look a bit prettier, and offer significantly more interesting game-play, I have to give a lot of credit to this Mac version. 

The Mac version (ported from the PC version) uses a 1-button action control system, which pretty much limits what you can do to contextual situations that arise during the game. Clicking the mouse button allows you to swing through the city if you see a Web target in the sky (which float through the scenery of the play area in a fairly silly way). If a bad guy is in front of you, the mouse click is the punch, kick, and combo - all determined by how many times you click the mouse. Since I'm playing using the keyboard, the 1-button interface is actually pretty neat because I was able to get into the game and start playing without learning a lot of controls. Were I playing with a game-pad, I would have been a little disappointed in the limitations the control system has to offer.

The bad-guys are true to the Spider-man universe (Rhino, with a nice-looking updated costume, is the first badie you face), but the AI is pretty weak. For example, when battling the Puma, you don't have to do much to avoid the projectiles he's throwing, aside from hide around a corner. The bank scene is somewhat true to that scene in the movie and offers a nice early introduction to Doc Ock. That part of the game had some genuinely interesting puzzles in it.

On my 1Ghz G4 Powerbook, play is smooth at 1024x768 with all the features turned on and set to "high detail". 

Is this game better than the first Mac Spider-Man game from Aspyr? 
Not really. The original Aspyr Spider-Man is a classic and offers a really unique game-play system and has a great story.

Is this game fun? 
I think so. If you have a Mac, but not a PS2, X-Box, or Gamecube, I think this game offers a lot of Spider-man related fun. The voice acting (by the actual movie stars) is a treat and the graphics are very nice.

Is this game good for kids? 
Maybe, depends on what age. There is a lot of punching and kicking and a bit of shooting in this game. I wouldn't let my six-year-old play this one (but he and I do play "Shrek 2", also by Aspyr). Kids old enough to handle the mild violence may benefit from the easy control system.

This is the one of several Mac game by Aspyr that has been based on a PC version of a game that is a lesser version of that game's console counterparts. Those games, along with this Spider-Man game, are all decent enough games, but pale in comparison to the versions you can get for one of the three major console systems. If you have one of those consoles, buy that version of this game. But if you're a Mac-owning Spider-man fan, I don't think this game is a waste of money. I'm glad I bought it...

i appreciate every game released for mac but this isnt really an excuse for a game. If you've played it or seen it played on one of the consoles and it seemed like a good game (like i did) dont buy it for Mac or PC. The game has been dumbed down for the PC and Mac. The fight scences are choppy and poorly coordinated. The graphics are bad compared to the consoles. You need a heavy duty Computer to run the game smoothly. The whole "no where you cant go nothing you cant do" phrase would be correct if you took the "t"s of the cants. I seriously must warn you you wont be getting a good game at all. Thank god i didnt buy it.

I would have given this book at least four stars if it didn't include Garth Ennis's three-part story The Thousand. It introduced a really silly villain who was supposed to bully Peter Parker as a kid. I hate it when characters who are supposedly part of the backstory come out of nowhere and I hate it even more when they are just silly. He had no motivation for wanting to kill Spiderman and take his place. The plot was just lame, which is a shame because Garth Ennis is one of the greatest comic writers ever. Having said that, John McCrea's art is brilliant! He uses a different style that I have never seen him use before. It relies less on shading and more on simple linework and colouring effects.
Thankfully, it gets much better from here on. Greg Rucka of Detective Comics fame offers the best story of the collection with the simple yet effective Kingpin story Severence package. Its offers an interesting insight into the way the Kingpin runs his organisation and has one of the best portrayals of the character ever.
Flowers for Rhino, based on the brilliant short story Flowers for Algernon, is one of the few instances that the Rhino is portrayed as a character you can feel for. Its a love story, believe it or not, in which the Rhino gains intelligence.
This book collects the first few stories from Marvel's Tangled Web series, which is one of the best Spider-man books in a long time. The still going on and the stories are still excellent so you might want to search for individual issues if they are not reprinted in trade paperback form.

Marvel Comics have been resurrecting the sales and popularity of their flagship character, Spider-Man, in the past year. It seems so obvious, but a big part of the character's resurgence has been due to the quality of writers and artists employed on the various monthly books. Tangled Web falls outside the "ongoing continuity" of the two main "core" titles, Amazing Spider-Man and Peter Parker, telling self-contained stories that focus on Spider-Man's world, as opposed to the lead character himself. The first volume of Tangled Web stories make up this book and within the pages you'll find the single best comic book produced this year. That story is the one-issue "Severance Package", a tale of the New York underworld. The Kingpin of Crime summons one of his hitmen, who has failed to carry out an order due to Spider-Man's interference. This story is the essence of Tangled Web: the people on the edges of the Spider-Man story, some never seen before, others (such as the Rhino, featured in the third story in this collection) who have been, at best, second-rate supporting characters, but in these stories become interesting characters in their own right. Fans of crime fiction should buy this book - it ranks alongside other current gritty mainstream comics such as Powers and 100 Bullets.

While the previous four volumes of Ultimate Spider-Man have dealt with Peter's private life in the background, and a big league bad guy (or two) in the foreground, this volume is almost exclusively about Peter Parker's home life, his social life, and his love life. As if his career as Spider-Man isn't filled with enough people that hate him, someone else is posing as Spider-Man and robbing people. It's actually much worse than it appears at first, when yet another person close to Peter is killed, this time by the Spider-Man impostor. 

His love life is also complicated more, here. With Gwen Stacy in need of comfort, she runs to Peter and his Aunt May for comfort. How much of Gwen wanting to be with Peter is friendship and how much is romance isn't revealed, but it does bend MJ to the breaking point. While I did enjoy MJ and Peter's close relationship from the off, this tension and disharmony is more in keeping with the regular Spider-Man continuity, at least in the beginning. 

The writing and art are perfect. Bendis and Bagley are a great duo, who work very well together. This fan girl is wishing them many happy years of collaboration. 

Public Scrutiny reprints Ultimate Spider-Man #28-32 and is a fine addition to any Spider-Man collection.

Now,, On to my Review...

I have activly read Ultimate Spider-Man since issue #1 (in collection form, that is) and i personally love the comic. But this collection wasn't as good a Legacy. It featured a great problem, especially Spidey's injury (No Spoiler). But it did lay way with a great and sad ending to the Ark. My advice: Read it now, weather or not you've read volumes 1,2,3, or 4. It's Awsome.

"Ultimate Spider-Man" is more than a re-imagining of the Spider-Man saga from the very beginning. Informed by our knowledge of what happened in the first decades worth of issues of "The Amazing Spider-Man" writer Brian Michael Bendis has heightened the intensity by collpasing the time frame. Even though there is never really a self-contained story in the mix, things are moving very quickly and Bendis is constantly pouring on the problems for our favorite webhead and his teenage secret identity.

"Public Scrutiny" is the fifth trade paperback collection of "Ultimate Spider-Man" comics, this time around including issues #28-32. Previous collections have focused on story arcs involving particular super villains (last time around it was the new and evolved Green Goblin). But one of the strengths of "Public Scrutiny" is that Spider-Man never fights one super villain in the entire book (even though he certainly wants to). The other is that the main focus is on Peter Parker being Spider-Man, an issue that is addressed on multiple levels, from Peter being distracted at school to Mary (Jane) having a hard time handling being constantly worried about Peter getting hurt (not calling her Mary Jane is the biggest problem I have with these revisions). This latter point comes to a head after Spider-Man has a bad encounter with the police who are gunning for him because he has been robbing banks and killing police officers. Actually, it is somebody impersonating Spider-Man, which is just another part of the growing headache for our hero.

Bendis is taking pains to explore what it means to be a superhero when you are sixteen years old and in love with the girl next door, who is ticked off that Gwen Stacy has moved in with the Parkers. Meanwhile, the whole bit with Nick Fury and the rules of superheroes in the brave new Marvel universe continues to present intriguing possibilities for the future. Again, Bendis and artist Mark Bagley are taking there time with this one; 32 issues into "The Amazing Spider-Man" Peter Parker was a freshman at E.S.U., while here he is only a sophomore in high school. We can only imagine what he is going to go through before he reaches graduation day. "Public Scrutiny" is as good of a story arc as "Ultimate Spider-Man" has presented to date, even without the standard knock down, drag out fight with a super bad guy.

Note: Harry Osborne is back and is apparently applying for the role of Pacey in the "Dawson's Creek" parallel that is clearly at work here (Peter is Dawson, Mary is Joey, and Gwen is Jen). I swear, Bendis knows exactly what he is doing with this one. This trade paperback have just about gotten me up to speed on "Ultimate Spider-Man," which has proven to be an integral part of the Spider-Man renaissance.
